Hello all,

First post for new member. What tire pressure are you running for original equipment Michelin Pilot Sports? I am 4 lbs. under per tire (cold) and pick up 1 lb. each when they warm up. Should I be at the recommended 30 lbs. front and 37 lbs. rear? Porsche dealer suggested recommended tire pressures could cause premature wear. I would appreciate any advise or comments.

Many thanks!

Hello, and Welcome to the Cayman Club - you might want to take a look through the "tire and Wheel" forum for more information - or do a search of just this forum using the words "air pressure" since there's already been quite a bit of discussion on the topic.

I'm assuming you have the standard 18" tires/wheels... I'm not sure why the dealer is telling you this - you really should run the recommended pressure - I think just the opposite - running the pressures low could cause premature wear.

First of all, welcome to the club.

The recommended tire pressures (on the door frame) are cold pressures - it's normal for pressures to rise once you start driving and is really of little concern if you aren't tracking the car at the time.

I hope your dealer is not recommending inflating to lower than the recommended cold pressures (that would represent a serious lack of knowledge or sense)!

FWIW, I try to keep my PS2s pretty close to the recommended for the street.

Hi Von Hestein,

Welcome to the club. I don't know if this will help as my CS came with 19" Bridgestone Potenza tyres. I keep my tyres at the recommended 32 front and 37 rear measured when cold. I noticed that as the tyres warm up the pressure goes up by 1 or 2 pounds. I my opinion, my tyres are wearing very well, but I do only have 3400 miles on them.

Starting with 30 front and 37 rear insures the understeer that Porsche wants you to have. For road driving, I start with 33 or 34 front and 36 rear, which provides better handling, at least for me. Your results may vary.

I've always set TP at 3-4 PSI over factory spec. Have my CS at 3 PSI over for front & rear. Rides a little harder, but just feels better. Under inflation will cause excess heat build up.
