8.5" and 10" wheels for winter application?

I desperately need to get some winter tires for my new 06 Cayman S and I had hoped to get OEM-sized wheels. I found a great deal on Moda MD1s but I don't really want to up-size the widths. Can anyone chime on on their experiences with ride and filament.

I assume since this is all the Tire Rack really sells for this car, that they must fit fine an not rub?

Paul

Have you considered a set of wheels from someone such as Raderwerks? They have the Cayman S wheels in 8/9 that are the correct size and offsets.

Personally I removed my PS2s from the 'S' wheels and fitted Pilot Alpin PA2s using the Porsche recommended sizes of 235/40 and 255/40.

All of the experts say that for winter tires you want to go as narrow and possible - I was trying to get a set of 17" wheels for winter but could not get a set in time.

I looked at Raderworks...

Wasn't sure about the quality. Do they have a good reputation?

I bought a set of Cayman S replicas for my Alpins from WheelEnhancement, which I think are the same as what Raderworks sells - they may be a bit heavier than OEM, but otherwise you can't tell the difference, and they are OEM fitment. WheelEnhancement also sells OEM take-offs if you would rather have the real thing. Raderworks is a Cayman Club sponsor FWIW.

Edo is right - in general, I don't think you want to go wider with your winter tires, especially if you anticipate driving in snow frequently.

I cannot speak from personal experience but I suspect someone on CC has bought a set. Russ (from Raderwerks) has been helpful when I have emailed him with questions.

Thanks everyone, I just ordered a set of OEM take-offs from Wheel Enhancements with Michelin Alpins mounted. Allan at Wheel Enhancements helped me and was very gracious.
