Question Tire/Wheel Confusion

Can anyone shed any light on alternative tires from the PS2's (CS with 18"). I drive the car daily for work transportation but also AX and for the moment want to avoid changing tires at AX events (stay stock). Looking for better price than the PS2 with as good performance or better for AX yet still have some practicality for daily mileage. Any thoughts regarding the Nitto INVO's?

Depending on who you ask around here, replacing your tires with anything but PS2's will lead to all manner of mysterious unexplainable mechanical troubles, like violent shaking and steering trouble!

Or you could just check out tirerack.com

For their class, PS2's are basically one of the best if not the best tire, thats why they are quite expensive. Anything else is really going to be a compromise. Since you are focusing on better grip for autox, you should be aware that such a tire will likely wear faster, have more road noise, and a poorer ride, since generally those things are compromised in order to get better grip.

Falken Azenis have a bit better dry grip than PS2's, and cost a lot less. The trade-off is that wet grip is not as good (though current generation Azenis are much better than the old ones in this regard). The Azenis are a great value for the type of use you describe.

I used Yokohama Neova's for a while. They are a bit expensive, but fine for track and street and very popular street tire for track and AX use from what I am told. Had to compromise on the rear size with 265/35's.

The other trade off is that they do not exist in the correct 18" size for the rears (265/40).

Like the Neova's. But I didn't find that a big problem. In fact, you get a little gear effect giving better acceleration, sacrificing top speed.
