17" track day tires

I've been doing HPDE4 NASA track days with my Cayman (non S) and it's time to get some new tires. I'd like to use "R" compound tires but can't seem to get near the original or equivalent sizes, 205/55 and 235/50-17. Are there any suggestions for NT-1s, RA1s or R-888s in appropriate sizes?

Given the narrow widths of the OEM 17" rims(6.5" front), I'm wondering if you'll have to go to another set of wider rims to get the tire you want. I sold an old set of 17" boxster style wheels (7" width front, 8.5" rear) to a friend and he fitted a set of RT-615's on them for sort of a low budget approach to track tires for the 987. 225/45's on front and 245/45 on rear; keeps you in the window of a 4% differential as far as OD compared to stock, the Falkens tend to run wider than stock and in these sizes they were relatively inexpensive. Probably paid $900 for the whole set and has had alot of fun with them.

Mike,

I'm in the same boat and there is only one worth while option, and its to get a new set of wider rims. We may as well go to 18"s while were at it too. I plan to keep my eyes peeled for a decently priced set of CS wheels and go from there.

The only thing I'm wondering is will I be happy with the CS wheels once I buy some.

Mike in OH,
Like your friend, I'm interested in getting a set of track wheels in 17" diameter. I don't mind if they're used, but I don't know which model Boxster rims should I be looking for. Can you provide specs (rim widths, offsets, model #s or names?)
TIA, croc'ed

996/Boxster

The above link will give you an image of the wheel in question &' wide front, 8.5" rear; offsets 55/50 IIRC.

These will work on a 987 Boxster, I suspect they'll work on a Cayman.
