An unfortunate event, front tire destroyed, suggestions?!
Just an hour ago, I hit a pothole, heard a loud noise and voila, my front right tire has a nice 1.5" cut in the sidewall I know better than to hope it can be repaired, but what about other parts (damper, wheel, etc...) I fear something may have happened to any of them
Also, Tire Rack have the tire on back order (19" Potenza), I dont know how much time that would take, and I really hate to have to keep her unused for long, any suggestions about that?!
Sorry if something seems awkward in my post, I'm in a really bad mood right now!!

Porsche USA uses Tire Rack as their tire warehouse. When supplies of certain tires get low, Porsche puts the tires on "safety hold" and only releases them to Porsche authorized dealers as replacements for Porsches.
The dealer has to fill out paperwork to acquire the tires.
I used this process last time. I had the tires within a week and the dealers prices were competitive. I was happy with the overall results.

Suggest that you check with your dealer for tires if Tire Rack will not have it soon. They probably can get it and inspect the rest of the car when they replace it. Also for all of us in the US this is just another reminder to really consider Tire and Wheel insurance. It pays for itself fairly quickly.
Don't blame you for feeling low but it is just an object (easy for me to say).

I will have them inspect the rest of the car, but I wouldnt bet on them having a replacement, last time I needed a replacement, they were as helpful as my cat
And you are right about it being just an object, its not the tire that is annoying me, but its the knowledge that the car will stay in the garage for quite some time that bothers me.
Btw, my fronts have ~14K on them, all street driving with occasional "spirited" driving, do you think I should change both fronts?! And if so, can I just go with Michelin for fronts while keeping potenza'a in the rear?!

I think with 14k miles you should definitley change both fronts.
Gator Bite's recent post on his flat tire had a lot of great information on when you should change both or just one and the magic mark seemed to be if the tire has been used more than 30% of its life you need to change both.
Not supposed to mix the tire brands. Why not just get four new ones? I know it is expensive but it is going to have to be done at some time and this sounds like as good a time as any. Tires are consumables. You aren't far off anyway if you have 14,000 on the clock. And you are back on the road.
@Suneet, I remember that post now that you mentioned it, will take another look at it, thx
@SF, 4 PS2 would cost over $1k, plus I'd have to pay shipping because they dont usually import N rated tires here, so that'd cost me a little over $2k.
Plus, i changed one of the rears at ~10k (also a flat) so at least 1 of them is relatively new!
Does anyone have an idea how much time is expected for tires on back order to become in stock?!

It is completely dependant on how you drive it. My rear had 8,000 miles and I had used 2mm or 25%. But many of my 8,000 miles are highway miles, which are very easy on tires. Starts, stops and turns use the tire much more quickly.
Because the 987s are mid engine cars, they tend to use rears faster rate than fronts, but once again this is largely dependant on how you drive. If you rip away from every stop, you are likely to use your rears more. If you dive into every turn, then maybe you're using your fronts more. There is no telling until you measure the tread depth.
Santa Fe gave good advice. Take it to the dealer. They have access to the tires and know how to measure the tires and will advise you appropriately.
Thx for the tip GB, I'll have the dealer or a tire shop check the fronts soon. But my question was about Tire Rack actually , how long do you think it is until tire on back order become in stock?! Or do you know of another online shop that may have them?
