Tire and Wheel Insurance

I was thinking of going with the tire and wheel insurance after researching it on the forum but the quote I'm getting from my dealer seems high compared with what others are paying. I was quoted $999 for 5 years/99999 miles.
Does anyone have any recent experience with tire and wheel insurance that they could share to put this in perspective?

I was quoted around $800+ for wheel/tire insurance when I got my car. I passed. A few months later I got a letter from the dealership and they offered me the same insurance for $400. I took it. (Coverage was not for 5 years and 9999 miles.)

This is something that you can bargain with the finance person about. Around $500 would be a good deal given the price of tires. But even twice that could pay for itself over five years if you have lots of construction in your area (nails and stuff on the roads) and you drive daily.

I was expecting something more in the $400-500 bracket but I have had a fair number of flats over the last few years due to the state of the roads in the area (construction traffic etc.). I'll see if I can negotiate it a bit with the dealer
