Who Has Purchased AfterMarket Tire/Road Hazard insurace?
Did a search for this, but doesn't seem to be any recent information. Has anyone purchased tire/road hazard insurance AFTER they bought their car? I bought my '07 Cayman last week from Beverly Hills Porsche and have about 860 miles on it. The dealer is in the process of signing up for this insurance so they couldn't offer it. They couldn't even suggest other dealers. Those chaps weren't too helpful.
So my fellow Cayman brothers, who has bought the tire/road hazard insurance after they bought their car and drove it off the lot? Can you provide the company name and the contact information of the person you dealt with?
Yes I did. After about the first 1000 miles or so. Talked to the Finance guy and he made it happen. Even got the price down some. So I suggest not going to your sales guy but the Finance person to ask. It has already paid for more than half the cost. I do recommend going through a dealer since they can make filing a claim painless to you.
As far as Tire/Road Hazard Ins. goes, find out how much it is and deposit that amount to a credit union account. If you do this with every set of tires, you'll get a free one quicker than you think.
I talked to the finance manager, and he said that this type of insurance only recently became legal in California and that the dealership is signing up to be allowed to offer it. I called Park Place Porsche because they're a site sponsor and they said they can only sell it at the time of purchase for the cars that they sell. I guess I should give your dealership a ring. Anyone you recommend talking to?
I asked the finance guy last week about the hazard warr. and he and I came to the idea that it wasn't worth it. Seeing that I only drive in the summer, I cut down the time of the tires were in use. There is one thing that I was told not to do. DO NOT USE THE GREEN SLIME TO FIX YOUR TIRE. The service guy said that he has to charge at least an hour to clean the rim and then the TPMS sensor may be toast. He said pay the probobly $80 tow and fix or replace the tire at a Porsche dealership. He did say that you should use it ONLY in an extreme emer.
TPMS
TPMS - The Tire Pressure Monitoring System provides early warning of any drop in pressure by continuously monitoring the pressure in each tire and alerting you in the onboard computer display in the event of a pressure deficiency. It communicates the exact pressure of each tire and/or their deviation from ideal pressure. This does away with the need for regular air pressure checks at the service station, which often prove highly inconvenient.

BluCroc, do you get the sense after your discussion that the tire insurance would be worth it if you were to use it as a daily driver 70% of the time? Thanks for the warning about the green goop.
I probobly would have considered it if it was a DD. I heard some stories on this site where it paid for itself. It is INSURANCE which is a gamble anyway. My guy didn't push it on me but he did say that bic Mercedes and Audi Q7's have big and expensive tires. I have 17" so I decided against it.

When I buy tires at Discount Tires (AKA Americas Tires) they always ask me if I want an extended warranty on the tires. I explain to them that the reason I am buying Nitto R Comp tires it to track the car so I expect to wear them out well before the chance of a road hazard can happen. (These are lasting me about 6 track days) They then persist to suggest the warranty is a good idea. So I ask, OK, if I bring the tire in and the rubber is worn down to the cord because I have been driving the car well over 100 MPH on a racetrack for several days, would that be covered? They say, no, OK, anything else we can do for you today? Hilarious. Can't blame them for trying I guess.
