I'm looking to replace the factory 17" wheels on my wife's Cayman. The 17" wheels only have 2k miles and are perfect. Any idea what they are worth, if anything?
This isn't a forsale thread, just an info thread... I'll post them in the marketplace if/when they go up for sale, I just started this to get an idea from the experts what they would probably go for....
FWIW I sold a set of 17" Boxster take-offs with TPMS AND PS2s with 147 miles on the lot for $1575. They were for sale in the PCA magazine and the PCA website. I received exactly one call. Apparently not a lot of interest in 17" wheels. This was last October.

TPMS
TPMS - The Tire Pressure Monitoring System provides early warning of any drop in pressure by continuously monitoring the pressure in each tire and alerting you in the onboard computer display in the event of a pressure deficiency. It communicates the exact pressure of each tire and/or their deviation from ideal pressure. This does away with the need for regular air pressure checks at the service station, which often prove highly inconvenient.
Wow...I was thinking that I'd be happy with $1K for wheels and tires complete. Too bad there's not much interest, I'd like to do the upgrade soon, but without a sure-sell on the backend, not sure I want to do it....
The car IS a lease, I suppose I could just wrap them up and put them away for 3 years and put the 17's back on when it goes back....
Last winter I bought a set of 17s new off car with PS2s but not TPMS for about $1100. Found em on Ebay. Some dealer in PA is asking $2K for the same set on Ebay and has been for a few months.

The car is a lease? I really think you NEED to keep the original wheels. Do you need winter tires?
Just take the wheels off, wrap them and hide them somewhere. Chances are high that in 3 years you will need to buy new tires anyway, so you may want to keep the 17s for when you turn the car in, and enjoy some 19s in the meantime.

If anyone has a set of those lowly 17's for sale, let me know. I might be a player, especially with fresh N rubber...

I suspected and this thread confirmed that there was not a big market for stock 17's. But I have the same desire as many to put on 18's or 19's on my new Cayman so my gamelan is to eBay the wheels and tires one at a time. Must be an occasional need to replace a damaged wheel? I’ll let you know how it goes.
Throw 'em my way! I'm sticking to my 17's and would love to have another set...

+1 To be clear, when you lease a car it isn't yours... So
I agree, by storing the wheels, you won't have to worry about a curb scratch costing you $ when you return the car... Even if you eventually buy it for residual value, any damage will end up coming out of your pocket. And the larger wheels can be sold more easily if that is what you want to run on.
Yeah...I've decided to just keep them. I'll put the 19's on next spring or maybe over the winter when it's not being driven. I appreciate all the input.
