It a recent email conversation with my dealer it has become apparent that N rated ContiSportContact 2 tires in 235/35/19 and 265/35/19 are no longer available. Here is a copy of the email thread:
Self:
Have the issues on availability of 'N rated ContiSportContact 2' tires in either 235/35/19 or the 265/35/19 been resolved yet as I have been told that Tirerack no longer carries either of these due to supply problems.
Dealer:
Those tires are no longer available in those sizes from Continental.
Self:
So if I were to have a puncture or need a replacement what is the current procedure with PCNA?
Dealer:
Porsche is doing all they can. Right know Michelin is also out because they are selling a lot more since Continental is out. Porsche is working with tire rack and the other manufactures to resolve this as soon as possible.
Self:
So are PCNA footing the bill for the other 3 tires if Continental is not an option anymore and in that case all 4 would need replacing as you can not mix brands or N ratings.
Dealer:
That I do not know about. If anything they may pro rate it.
Self:
By pro rate it you mean if my remaining life on my other wheels is 80% then I would potentially only pick up the 20% of the cost for the other 3?
Dealer:
That is what I think they would do. Porsche has a great history of standing behind there product that’s why I know they are working hard with Continental, Michelin and tire rack to resolve this issue fast.
Now I think you could probably argue, more so if you can is on a lease or you have a new car on order that you were not intending to keep the car that as such the 20% cost mentioned should also be picked up by Porsche as you would never be in the situation of ever replacing any of the tires under normal driving conditions.
Anyhow I thought I would share the email thread.

I wish I had seen this sooner we were over at the Continental world HQ yesterday here in Charlotte and I could have asked what the situation was. I did hear them talking about the Sport Contact 3 though, I'll see if I can track someone down today and ask.

I know they had or do have a similar problem in the UK.
However, I also know that PCGB are footing the bill for the other tires and not on a pro-rata basis. Tires in some sizes are on a 4-6 week backorder, so PCGB are faced with either providing a loaner while the customer waits for a tire or providing a suitable N rated alternatives, with latter being the preferred option. This option requires the replacment of all 4 tires with the customer paying for one!!
A downside of this is that if you have a newer car and little wear on your existing tires is that the cost of the one replacement tire from a dealer is about 30% more than an independent supplier and there is always a risk that the rims can be marked during tire replacement.

I recently had this problem. I had worn out my two rears and wanted to replace them because the fronts were fine. Dealer couldnt get any, neither could tirerack, etc. I had to get 4 new tires.

Why can't these tire manufacturers keep up with demand? First it was Michelin, then the Bridgestones were tough to get, and now the Conti's? I'm really starting to think about tire hoarding in my garage to get me through the dry spells...this is rediculous.

...so did you have to pay for the two that you really didn't need?

I was unable to get to the Conti booth today, I'll look for them as I can.

I wonder if any other car makes has problems with availability of tires like the Cayman. Since I owned this Cayman 90% of the time the rear 18" Michelins are always back ordered. Tirerack shows them as the best rated compared to conti. It’s a shame that a consumable like a tire is not readily available for a car such as this. It seems that the manufacturers can not keep up with the demand of Cayman tire requirements, what’s the root cause of this? When I had Chevy’s, Hondas, Acura’s, Toyotas and BMWs- I never had issues getting the tire I wanted- I just do not get it. One of the members mentioned that they tried another brand and it was not gripping after 200 miles, this is troubling to me. All this tire unavailability stories is the only thing that bothers me about the Cayman.

With respect to a resolve of sorts, I was told by a TireRack phone rep that the Michelen PS 19's would be back in stock mid July and they would give me a call or email me... Fingers are crossed until then that there will be no pressing need.

Is an over 2 week wait acceptable to get a tire.... I do not think so.
You are lucky you have PS2s I have Contis
