Best tires/tire sizes for 19 inch wheels: Advice please.
Hi Guys,
I just picked up a set of OZ Racing Ultraleggera HLT 8.5x19" fronts and 10x19" rears. What tires/sizes do you recommend for a CS (no PASM)? My standard 18" have Continental SportContact 2 tires and I'm less than impressed with them.
Thanks,
Mike
PS: They'll be used mainly on the road, not the track. See Photo below.
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Nice wheels. My Porsche 19" wheels are 8" and 9.5" X 19". The tires it comes with are 235X19 front and 265X19 rear.
With the larger size wheel, your could easily use 245 fronts and 275 rears.

Make sure that whatever you decide to buy stays within about 3% of the overall diameter of the stock 19" tires. Use the spec sheets posted at tirerack for the tires, to find the overall diameters of the tires. If they're outside that 3% envelope, you may have trouble with the sensors that are used by the AMS and PMS systems - the systems my malfunction, and you'll get computer errors.

I am currently using Potenza REO50A's 245/35/19 front and 285/35/19 rear and they fit great and are fantastic tires. My wheels are 8x19 F and 11x19 rear. The 285's are sized for a 10-11" rim width so they should work for you as well. I chose these tires by the way because they are close to the performance of the Pilot sport PS2's but about $100 per tire less.
I have carrera sport rims which are 19x10 (265's)and they came with Pilot Sport 2's. IMO they are one of the best street tire out wet/dry. The only negative is there limited shelve life.

Thanks to all for the advice. I ended up with PS2s, 235/35 fromt and 265/35 rear. I'll post a photo and my experience with them when I've clocked up a few kilometers on them. They replace 18" Conti Sports 2s.
Initial impressions are that the PS2s have lightened the steering a lot, give a little more feedback but have not affected the ride. Not so sure about the grip but the tires have done less than 100km, so its too early to tell.
Love the look though

Hi,
Here's the photo I promised.
I've had a chance to do some more driving and I think I'm going to be very happy with the tire upgrade as well as the look.
