I see no current thread on this well discussed subject, but wanted to share the plan offered by my dealer, Leith, in Cary, NC. The plan is offered by NAS, and costs $649.00 for five years. Covers replacement, no cap, unlimited, for road damage, but not curbs. Tire must have 3/32s thread. Hope this info is helpful....

Generally speaking these types of policies are big moneymakers for the dealer, not so great for the consumer. That said, I did go this time for a similar policy on my new Cayman. When the finance guy first presented it, it was $750, it became $599 without even asking....I hope I don't use it, but over five years, it seemed to offer a bit of peace of mind.
Be wary and read the warranty carefully. In some cases, at their discretion, they can patch the tire and not repair it. I assume bad on a Z rated tired
Since the wheels are worth a fortune, one damaged wheel more than pays this insurance off.
I reluctantly purchased the wheel/tire insurance but after my recent road hazard flat in SC on my way back home to Fl I'm glad I did. My 19" rear Conti cost $383.00 with installation. All covered by my insurance. Almost paid for itself in this one instance. Well worth the money and if ever a wheel goes bad you are talking a grand. I'd do it again and recommend it to anyone.
When I bought my CS, I was offer a "tires for life" plan through the dealer. I cost $3000 but with it I get new back tires every 12k miles and new fronts every 18k miles regardless of the condition of the tires. They must be replaced with the OEM tires. Included is tire rotation every 12k miles(won't be using that) free alignments every 12k miles(manditory) Free tire and or wheel replacement as part of a road hazard ins and a few other goodies like wiper blades. Free towing within 75 miles. This all for as long as I own the car. Sounded pretty good so I bought it.
You I'll be burning off those rear tires at about 11,990 miles.
Top of the morning everyone.
Need some advise.
Yesterday morning driving north bound on the 110 FRWY. Very early AM I ran over something in my lane. Didn't see the damn thing until it was to late.
Anyway, my front right wheel outer lip has a slight bend to it now. If your standing above the tire and wheel looking straight down or from the side you can see the bend. If your kneeling down ground level looking right at the tire and wheel it's not visible.
My CS drives fine. No pulling or vibration.
does anyone know if you can buy a tire/wheel policy after the car has been on the road - 2K miles? what are some names of companies that offer this type of insurance? thanks,
mike

I was told I could put it on later but they would need to verify condition of wheels and tires first...don't know how they do that. I plan to put Turbo wheels on my CS and asked if they would be covered. Answer: yes, to the replacement cost of the original wheels (Carerra S). Also covers dents or dings (subject to limitations, bla, bla), and repair front windshield minor cracks, stars or chips that can be repaired through existing windshield resin repair process. Company: Multi-shield Protection Plan Cost: $699 + tax
Sorry if too much info...I'm new
Going Cayman - there are a bunch of good topics on tire and wheel insurance that you can find and read by searching but the short answer about adding the coverage later is "maybe". It depends on your dealer usually.
jcb - It is unclear if you have the coverage. If so it is going to be up to your carrier to determine replacement/repair. In the US most carriers rely on the dealer to make the call. Wheels can be repaired and again in the US there are lots of qualified repair shops.
My policy cost me $450.00 for the five year, unlimited coverage.
Paid for itself with two nearly back to back right rear punctures.
I wonder why it costs so much elsewhere.
Location and what the market will bear. I'm guessing if your rural, its going to be cheaper than in the big cities. Just guessing but I'm sure the market has a lot to do with it.
I thought it might have been because I was cool.
Weren't rural- many millions in the metro area where the dealership is.
Maybe they gauge it by ability to pay?
Or they knew i was a cheap S.O.B..
It might be "who" is providing the coverage. An independent insurance company that does this a core business might have a different price than insurance provided by the dealer. For example, I think I paid $500 for 5 years and the paperwork has the name of the overall corporation that owns a bunch of dealerships.
Got a flat, took it to the dealer ... everything done right there ... no hassles .... saved like $450 installed Just about paid for itself within 3 months of buying ... woot.

I wouldn't say quite that....
Wheel repairs generally cost $125-150 on average for a bend. Even with a replacement barrel on a 3-pc wheel you're looking at around $300. Well that's the prices that are familiar to me....
