So we are about ready to order a 2007 Cayman S in Midnight Blue with the XRR 19" Carrera Sport Wheels. We have not seen the wheels in person, but they look great on the Porsche Web site and in the brochure.
Looking through the gallery on this site, I saw several cars with these wheels and to my surprise the wheels are gray, not silver. Spoke with my dealer and they confirmed this. We had no idea about this and are no longer sure that this wheel will look good with Midnight Blue. We are going to the dealer on Thursday morning to look at the wheels (on a 911) and also look at the 19" SportDesign wheel which would be our alternate choice.
For owners of the XRR 19" Carrera Sport Wheels, is the gray dark? Matte finish or sparkly? Anyone here own a Cayman in Midnight Blue with these wheels?
Just when we thought we had the options list nailed down, another questions arises.
Comments on these wheels and color combo, along with our alternate wheel choice, would be most appreciated.

You decide how they look. I say a "bit dark" than artic silver.
Midnight - Had the XRR wheels been available when I ordered my car, I would have gotten them. I got the 19" sport design instead, with a black car. The XRRs are a dark-ish silver, not sparkly or matte. There is a metallic flake in the paint from what I could tell, but not overly so. Another thing to note is that the rim around the wheel is bright polished, which sets the wheel off nicely, but may not be to your taste or style - these things are very much in the eye of the beholder.
Take a look at them at the dealer. Personally, I think they would look quite nice with a midnight blue car. The nice thing about midnight (I almost got that color myself) is that the color seems to change with the light, so I think the dark gray painted XRRs would look good with it. I also think the SD wheels would look great too... I like mine a bunch.
in my opinion the carrera sport wheels are by far the best looking. the darker grey color looks good and contrasts well with the brighter silver outer rim (yes the wheels are two tone not monochromatic). don't forget since you are ordering the car you can opt for the wheels same as the exterior color or probably any color.
Nobody gives you more ways to get the look you want:
1. Purchase new Porsche Factory alloys.
2. Purchase like-new used or restored Porsche alloys from us.
3. Have us refinish your Factory alloys. We restore, anodize, polish and chrome plate.
4. Purchase our aftermarket wheels--we offer the very best, including Kinesis, Fikse, BBS, HRE and Champion to name a few.
5. Exchange your straight, true Factory alloys for Factory alloys pre-finished the way you want.
6. Exchange your scratched/curb damaged Factory alloys for new or refinished Factory Alloys.
7. Trade in your straight, true Factory alloys for aftermarket or Factory wheels. http://www.wheelenhancement.com
I've got 'em on red. Just went out and looked, if there is any metallic in the spoke it is the absolute smallest amount. That's a response to the "sparkly" question. The spokes are high gloss. In the gallery under red caymans is a pic. I agree with beez, I think they would look very nice on midnight blue.
My Cayman S is arctic silver and I was convinced that I wanted the Carrera Sport Wheels. I've seen them on a silver car and on a cobalt blue car as well. Bottom line is that I just ordered Sport Design Wheels for my car. They look better, especially with the arctic silver. By the way, last week I saw a cobalt blue CS with Sport Designs and it looked fantastic! Get what you want and what fits your eye. Enjoy!
I like your taste. If I could order without caring about price it would be;
Midnight Blue/Natural Brown/XXR.
My BMW is very close to that. One of the Car mags had a Boxster like that that had gotten the engine replacement. I sound like rookie when I can't tell you what engine it was but the total cost was around $93,000. Maybe RUF.
Saw Slate/Natural Brown in West Palm and it was fantastic. It'll be a while before I go that crazy on paint/leather that is near worthless when you drive it off the lot.
you definitely want the Carrera Sport Wheels! (they are my favorite wheels, naturally)
they are GT Silver, not gray, just slightly darker than Arctic Silver
look very good on dark colored Caymans
but as gatorcayman says "get what suits your eye"
there's not a bad wheel choice out there for the Cayman so it boils down to your personal preference
our dealer had a midnite blue with painted sport designs (do a search for pictures, think Mad Eric posted them)
good luck and welcome to the club
