I am not an expert on wheels, but I did do some research before I upgraded the wheels on my previous car.
IMHO: Forged wheels are lighter, generally better quality and more expensive than cast wheels. I would stick with name brands with known reputations for quality like BBS and HRE.
If you are changing wheels just for looks, don't plan on keeping the car and don't care about performance, then just about anything will do. When I changed from OEM cast AMG 18" wheels to 19" BBS RS-GT forged wheels, the weight dropped by approx. 13 pounds per wheel. The lighter rotating weight made a discernable difference in the cars acceleration.
Make sure you get the correct offset on the new wheels.
Just my opinion based on my experience. I'm sure there are others with better knowledge in this area.
I am not familiar with this brand but it is nice looking wheel. Like previous post here stated if you are looking for performance and quality you should stick to a Forged wheel. The brands mentioned are very high quality wheels but are a little pricier. Send me an email with what you are looking for and I can try to help you out.
These guys sell their wheels on ebay. So if you do decide to buy from them compare the price they give you to the price they are selling them on ebay. Also remember that if they sell them through ebay they pay a commission, if they sell direct they don't. So you should be able to get them for less than ebay. Here is a link to their ebay store:
Dude, I'm not Paris Hilton, no matter what you're imagining..
On a serious note, thanks for reply. Of course I care about all that. And I'm even guessing that "18 wheels will be lighter than 19s...
No offense intended. I just see so many cars here in L.A. with garbage wheels that I know must weigh a ton because the poeple are primarily concerned with looks. I didn't mean to infer that you were one of them. I was trying not offend anyone, and I guess I blew it :-)
I gotta believe that 18" wheels would weigh less than 19" by the same manufacturer. The weights for any given size wheel across the high end manufacturers are pretty competitive, but that's still something I'd look at.

Yep, I saw that. thanks! What's curious is that they market some of their wheels "forged style"... does that mean they're forged? I sent them an email, let's see what they say...
thePurist,
I also looked at these wheels (from eBay) when looking for a second set to swap between track and street. What concerned me was that the offset on the rears is wrong. It's my understanding that a 10" rear should have an offset between 40mm to 45mm. These wheels on eBay are 58mm, which means that you would need spacers. I'm guessing that the 58mm is more for a wide body 996 or 997. Using spacers should not be a big deal, I just didn't want to mess with then. I think the front offset on these wheels are a bit off too, but only about 2mm (negligable).
They eBay wheels claim they are forged.
For me, I purchased a set of Cayman S wheels for my Boxster, which I am using on the street. My Boxster S wheels are now my track wheels.
While my wheel change was not that dramatic (stayed with Porsche factory 18" wheels), I have to admit that my Boxster looks WAY better with the Cayman wheels. I really like the change. However, I'm not recommending that you go with 18" Boxster S wheels, since the Cayman wheels look better in my book.
Best of luck choosing new wheels. I know how crazy it can get.....
