Just had to use my wheel/tire road hazard insurance today for the second time in 7200 miles. First time was 350 miles from home coming back from the Tail of the Dragon. Hit the hook of a tie down strap on the passenger rear on that one. That was about 1200 miles ago. On Sunday I was preparing to head out to check out my new G-Tech Pro RR when during pre-trip inspection I noticed a screw, in you guessed it, the rear passenger tire. $500 for the insurance for 4 years and I paid $400 the first incident and $300 today. Best $500 bucks I ever spent. I would highly recommend it. On a side note it sure pays to do a pre-flight inspection before you ride. A couple of minutes could save you a lot of aggravation, or worse.
Another reason to believe in the value of TPMS as well. It saved me already. I wonder how long the insurance companies will continue with Porsche tire/wheel insurance. They must make it up elsewhere.
TPMS
TPMS - The Tire Pressure Monitoring System provides early warning of any drop in pressure by continuously monitoring the pressure in each tire and alerting you in the onboard computer display in the event of a pressure deficiency. It communicates the exact pressure of each tire and/or their deviation from ideal pressure. This does away with the need for regular air pressure checks at the service station, which often prove highly inconvenient.
I agree...road hazard on ultra high performance rubber is definitely worth the extra considering the higher probability of rupturing the tire. Plus the much higher cost of replacing the tires themselves.
I didn't get the hazard insurance when I bought the car primarily because I typically reject all attempts to sell me anything in the finance office, but in this case I believe I was short-sighted. Should'a done it. Called the dealer about it; they can't (they say) sell it to me now.
So, it looks like I will be relying on that bag of bones and spellbook that Dave mentioned in the "No Jack" thread.

Gene, I'd really press the dealer. Talk to the finance guy. I'm betting he can get if for you after the fact unless you have accumulated a bunch of miles. Don't just ask the sales guy. You will not be sorry. I bought mine a couple of months after the car because of what I read on this site.

Santa Fe,
I had the same thought about the insurance companies myself. I've never used it on any of my previous cars, but go figure, twice within 10 months on the same wheel. Imagine if you damaged a wheel. That would be big bucks. For those that are tight on money when specing their car I would recommend forgoing an extra option and buy the insurance.
I bought the insurance as well, havent used it on the CS yet but I also had that insurance on my Mini Cooper S which was mostly my wifes daily driver, we put 3 tires and 2 rims on that car over a 2 year period,if they were like a regular insurance company htey would have canceled us, cost of policy:$400 cost of 3 tires and 2 rims $1700 sticking it to an insurance company without doing anything fraudulent:Priceless

Tell me about it. When I get in any car dealer's finance office, I feel like everything they say is trying to pull extra money for nothing from me - and 99% of the time, they are.
A while back when we bought my wife's VW, we had everything finalized and of course I had all the numbers written out and memorized, to the penny, and the guy tells me the monthly payments and they were off by like $50. When I said, hang on, something's not right, he said "oh, yeah, I went ahead and added in an extended warranty. That's just so common I figured you would want it." I got so mad I almost walked out - if not for my wife's pleading. Firstly, an extended warranty was never discussed so just adding it onto my bill was HIGHLY unethical and sleazy. Secondly, the warranty he added on was insanely expensive. Man, it gets me fuming just thinking about it.
Off topic a little bit but in line with the previous post -- one time I was in the finance office and thought it was a done deal and they pulled the old bait and switch on interest rates. The rate that the salesman had told me I was "approved" for was lower than the rate that the finance guy told me. Thus, the monthly payments were higher than expected. I told him no thanks and was prepared to leave. After they squirmed for a bit the finance guy magically found a lender that would give me the interest rate that was previously discussed by the salesman. I was still ticked because they tried to pull a fast one on me. Finally I got out of there with the car but had a lot of buyer's remorse due to a horrible dealer experience. I traded the car in at another dealer the next day. Funny thing is, I traded it in for $2K more than I paid for it the night before.
The original dealership (bad experience) was a luxury car dealer that had new Bentleys in their showroom and Maseratis out front. I was really disgusted with them!
All that said, the advice on the tire insurance sounds good and I will look into it when it comes time to purchase.
