Wheel Shimmy so soon?

I did not see a similar post about this so here goes. I've got 19 inch Carrera S wheels and Michelin Pilot Sports with just over 2000 miles. So I am on the freeway and open it up a little and at 60 thru 80 there is a slight shimmy. Geez this is a new car and babied like you would not believe.

What gives? Anyone experience this?

Anyway, the question is whether to take it back to the dealer for a balance or to our sponsor, Tire Rack? Any suggestions?

Yes we discussed it a few times. I think vibration was the topic. Some possible causes are Cosmoline on the wheels that were not cleaned off and pick up enough dirt to unbalance a wheel, wheel bolts not properly torqued, out of round tire, wheel needs balancing. You can try one and two yourself. Let us know.

There is also an issue of properly seating the brakes where shimmy occurs under braking but I don't believe that is what you have.

Black Shadow,I've had the problem since I took delivery. My dealer has replaced 3 tires, rebalanced all the wheels and re torqed all of them also.My car has 4000 miles on it now and I've only had it a year. The situation is very frustrating because I vibration is still present.Let me know if you get yours corrected.

If you are still having problems after repairs have them check the run-out on the brake rotor where the rim sits and also have them check the rims for run-out as the rim might not be true.

I felt a very light bit of imbalace around 65-70 from the moment I drove it off the lot. Took it back .... and they "Fine tuned" the balancing, whatever that mean. And its gone

Just take it back, the car should track true and straight.

See if you have a high performace tire place in your area. I had a slight vibration at about 62 mph and took it to a place called Butler Tire Co. and they did a 130 mph on car balance. Drives like silk now.
