In replies to my original post for "carry along items" someone suggested getting a 944 jack because of it's light weight. Does anyone know of a web site that I can search. Porsche used parts? Is the handle a separate piece ? Thx.
Unless the Porsche name on the jack is important to you. With the spec you want, you can go the junk yards for imports (auto recycler) and picks the one you like for a few dollars.
The Porsche aluminum scissor jack is much smaller & lighter than those you'll find at the junk yard or for $10-$15 on line. In addition, look for the Porsche jack with the protrusion on the top to fit into the matching hole on the Caymen's jacking points. The other jacks generally lack that safety feature. BTW, the jack came with a number of Porsches (e.g., 993TT, Boxster, etc). Best source is probably eBay.
I bought a never used 17" Boxster "doughnut" spare tire complete w/foam insert to hold the supplied jack & tool kit, on eBay. Fits nicely in the hatch area.
I have ordered the 17" Boxster biscuit from Germany and sourced a jack from a VW Golf 1. Did not want to know the price of a Porsche jack. Will probably never use it and only intend carrying it on longer journeys in the front trunk or on the rear hatch shelf (if my golf clubs still fit).
Hey Dan, does it actually fit over the CS brake calipers? Stock 18s look super close to the calipers, I would imagine 17s being worse.

The boxster "doughnut" spare with jack looks great. I will kept my eye on this.
As for the alum vs steel jack, I wouldn't worrry too much. Most of us so damn overweight, We could lose 30 lb first. I will start with that before sheding weigh for the Cayman.

The problem that remains is there is no place to put the wheel you remove -- it won't fit ANYWHERE except the passenger seat, and it cost WAY too much to leave by the roadside!
