Deposit refundable?

I'm expecting my car in March, paid my £3000 deposit in November, order has been submitted and cannot be changed.

On my invoice it states, 'deposit refundable' and I was also told this by the OPC salesman. When actually does the deposit become non-refundable? I'm have no plans atm to cancel my order but what would happen if I did before March, would I get my £3000 back?

Apparently the deposit is refundable until your spec has been finalised and about to be built.

I was told the deposit was refundable untill the spec was 'locked' If I then decided I didn't want the car after this time I would be expected to wait untill the car was delivered and then sold to a new customer .The deposit would then be returned. The idea of this is to make sure that if you order something unsellable, tastless etc they the dealer would not get stuck with it. J

thanks for the info! My order was locked within about a week of me putting the deposit down in November for Jan/Feb build.

I hate to say it but at the moment I'm think I'm going to have to cancel my order.

Mark,

I would mirror exactly what JJC said above - you shouldn't have any trouble getting your money back, you'll just have to wait until it sells. Of course, this assumes you haven't got a special order orange paint, matched with a special order pink interior.....you haven't, have you???? You'll be fine, don't worry.

Update, I've spomen to the dealer to inform them I'm cancelling my order. JJC was pretty much spot on, they won't refund me the deposit until the car is going to another person which is fair enough.

Although, reading the small print on the invoice, it does state that the initial deposit is fully refundable and will always be returned in the event of a cancellation. The second deposit, however is not.
