hi to all of you,

i am due a new cayman soon and would appreciate your thoughts on my dilemma.

base line is i cant get a decent quote without having tracker fitted.

however, i am going finance HP/PCP route so would GAP insurance be less useful if car was nicked??? say car was nicked and not recovered even tho tracker was active could both insurance companies say tracker must have been faulty so we aint paying up? then if it was recovered would GAP play any role?? ie i want a new car instead. would GAP only cover write offs then??

secondly, i am worried about wording of policy. say someone gets car-jacked and basically car is taken with keys. in policy it says exclusions include theft by people with access to keys. isnt that most car crime nowadays? so could GAP people and car insurance people say - we aint paying up cos the car was stolen with keys???

rather than excitement about the car this is turning into a morbid fear of something going wrong.

has anyone actually gone for porsche pcp - i cant be bothered hassle of arrnaging separate finance just want to make it simple with porsche finance. can someone give me an example of a GOOD PCP deal on say a 37000 cayman with 10000 deposit over 4 years???

thanks guys. another thing. i hope the car is worth this hassle. saw a 325d m sport coupe and thought "earlier delivery, better mpg, cheaper, less unwanted attention, no tracker, no hassle". i hope this porsche is worth the wait!!!

I didn't have a tracker fitted to mine, but it did mean I had to switch insurance companies. A hassle, but I ended up with a better quote. Dig back on the forum and you will find lots of vituperative words from me on the subject of trackers and insurers!

Why not just finance it elsewhere (banks or building soc) and then you are effectively just a cash buyer.

I am surprised you have to have a tracker, I guess this could be due to where you live but we cannot tell from your info. I am in Bristol and will be able to get insurance without a Tracker (they also drain batteries if the car is not used regularly... and I have heard of stories of one being loaded onto a low-loader and the tracker not registering as the car is taken away!!)

As far a finance goes its a very personal thing, I am going down an increase in my mortgage (interest only) because it keeps the total payments well within my budget and I get my lovely car and can buy my new house. The total mortgage (including the car) comes to about 56% of the property value so I am keeping the total borrowing as low as possible.

When talking to Porsche about their finance they were talking about £500+ a month payments, where I am talking about the same but including my mortgage. Its worth looking at many different options before you settle on what's best for you.

When is yours due, mine is due in June sometime.

Funny post, as I was car-jacked in a 318i BMW, so that throws one of your theories out of the window. The car was used for a robbery the day after, so theft these days is not just for want of a nice car to drive around in!!

Insurance (Direct line) paid out in full for the claim, even though the theft was "with keys". I'm sure that clause is to stop you claiming your friend, who had the keys you gave him, stole the car!!! but could e wrong.

I got my insurance from Norwich Union Direct and they did not ask for a tracker, also their prices were better, so I was happy.........

Red face thanks for replies

i take your point - anyone can get car-jacked. my question was purely regarding what would happen to the clause saying taken with keys. and yes, i think this may relate to one of ur friends/family having access to keys etc but this is open to different interpretation.

i am expecting car very soon with this month's build.

i think i made a mistake with the colour. went for non-metallic black.

I used Porsche insurance cos it was good value and no need for a tracker. I also went for gap (although in principal you should not have to) for two reasons - the car may get stolen and also the brakes are so good you may get rear ended, which with mid engine could be total loss. I'm not pesamistic at all but for the sake of a few hundred quid I am completely covered.

I also used Porsche finance as it was a great deal, I could have paid cash but just felt I was better financing it with their money as opoosed to mine. I would guess a 37K Cayman with 10K down would be under 500 notes a month on the PCP; but as stated finance is very personnel so do what works for you.

Don't know how you restrained yourself on spec so well to get out for 37K, and if you are unsure of the colour go and talk to them.....although the black will look great!

Is it worth the wait...OMG Yes - you will be blown away.

Finance Options

First post from me! - been a lurker for a while....I'm currently waiting for my Cayman 2.7 - should be here next week..

I got a quote from Porsche Finance, which the business manager was able to massage to be as competitive as other companies I had contacted. However the one thing that put me off the Porsche deal was that the interest rate was variable. In my judgement, I see rates going up rather than down over the next three years. I eventually went with Sainsbury's / Bank of Scotland as the monthly payments were the same for the same deposit and balloon payment, but the interest rate is fixed.

Wink cayman is cool!

Marco - i was in the same boat as u - been a lurker for a while. finally got the urge to post and get some feeders for questions that hadnt been completely covered before.

went to the garage today - well all i can say is i love porsches so far, and i cannot wait to get into mine. the experience of being in a porsche dealership, now that you are no longer a tourist pleasure seeking window shopping scally in their eyes is amazing. my dealer so far has been top notch, and i shall give plenty of positive feedback once the car comes home as i want to make sure it all goes right before my shining feedback.

anyway - basic cayman is all i will ever need. the basic cayman, like the basic 997, is best left as it is. i love the 17inch wheels with the fat tyres - reminds me of those american muscle cars with massive wheels. i love the simple beauty of it and in my eyes basic is best. if i had a larger budget i would have gone straight to the basic 997 rather than a fully loaded s. having wasted money on cars in the past with flash stereos, flash wheels and flash blah blah blah it all ends up being an insurance and depreciation nightmare. if i had the choice of option maybe multifunction steering wheel would have been up there - its the most useful (but i dont think it was available for my car??). any other car like a TT or 3 series i would have been wasting money on options to make it better than it is. that is definitely not needed with the porsche.

yeah - i am still clutching at straws with finance. hopefully soon i will own my first porsche - will keep u updated.

baz

Gee, signing in from America. Do you have to have trackers on your cars? I know they watch you blokes much more than they watch us. Cameras everywhere and facial recognition programs running constantly.

Here, there is the option for Lo-jack, typically, which will help police in recovering a stolen vehicle.

Is this what you are talking about?

I am sure we get insurance breaks for the Lo-jack anti-theft system, but I shudder to think that the governement might want me to install something that could track my movement and speed.

tracker

Joe,

tracker i think is similar to lo-jack but its defo not a requirement here in the UK - examples of John H rebeling against insurance company for forcing him to get one. Unfortunately, as is often the case, I happen to come from a high risk post code (ZIP) and this area is known for its car crime.

but...the insurance company giving me the cheapest deal is the insurance company that requires tracker, and this is cheaper by far, outweighing the cost of the tracker. so...afraid tracker it is.

i still think car crime is amazingly high and i am sure there is some aspect to car crime which can be dealt with but govt and industries holding back cos its such a high income field. loads of industries would go bust. much like electric/alt fuel cars not being produced earlier.

rather than this car tax business i think ALL buses should be ELECTRIC and ALL buses should have a speed limiter sensitive to the area they are driving in. I have had very few positive experiences with bus drivers.
