Wheel Dilemma

Hi guys , just about to buy a virtually brand new Cayman S from my local OP dealer . Its a high spec Artic silver car with sport design wheels on it the car has done 5000 miles . Im not keen on the wheels , and the dealer has a brand new set of Carrera sport wheels with brand new tyres on in there parts department . The car is the best part of £49,000 and they want another £2000 grand to change the wheels over ! they get to keep the sport designs , does that seem fair ? thanks

Well, Carrera Sports for Cayman/987c Boxster are very rare, and look very nice.

BUT

To give you a guide, you can get brand new 18" Cayman S wheels, with brand new PS2 tyres from any number of places for under £1400, AND you would still have the SD wheels to sell on/keep for resale/spare etc

I would haggle a lot for the P/X on the Carrera Sport wheels, or just take the Designs for now, and buy a new set later on.

Jack

Be Careful of the width of the rear wheels/tyres, You don't really want or need 11" wide !!!

If the wheels are for a Cayman they're not 11" - they are 10" wide on the rears unless they are for a 911 which then yes they are 11" wide.

I have 11" wide carerra classics on the rear and they fir fine with 15cm spacers. 18' wheels ride much better though.

I would look at the deal they are offering you as if you ordered the car. I don't recall the exact numbers from the Porsche build site but I believe the Carrera Sports are more than the Designs. But not $2K more. Eventhough your wheels/tires have 5K miles on them I would offer him $1-1.5K
