UK Dealer Autoglym treatment and Gap insurance??

Just wondering whether anyone had gone for these offers - and do you think they're worth it?

Autoglym Treatment:

The dealership staff apply stuff on the car inside and out and they reckon it forms a 10-year protective barrier so you don't need to wax the car again. On the inside it makes all the surfaces water-repellent so spills are very easy to clean up.

Cost is £295 I think. You also get some Autoglym cleaning materials.

My initial thought is - probably a good idea, albeit an expensive one.

Gap insurance:

Pay about £700 for three years's worth of cover. If your car is declared a writeoff, or is stolen, the Gap insurance enables you to buy a brand-new replacement (identical spec or value of your car) rather than just getting current market value at the time of writeoff/theft from your normal motor insurance.

My initial thoughts - no thanks.

I was only told about these last Sat when I paid the rest of the money for my car, and I'm being asked to make a decision ASAP - any views, anyone? Thoughts appreciated.

Gap insurance is well worth it if your current insurance doesnt cover it.

Not sure on the Autoglym stuff - maybe depends how much you like to wash/wax the car yourself. Part of owning a car (nice car) for me is the satisfaction after a good afternoon washing and waxing it. I've also moved off the autoglym products onto Meguirs, there are products out there that can givemore shiney results . Not sure on the inside protection, maybe a good idea - that said if anyone spills anything in my car (now or when the Cayman arrives) there will be more than the mess to clean up...

GAP - maybe depends on your financial situation, I understand that most insurance companies would pay out market value in the event of a write off. If you are financing the car that may not pay off the whole amount, can you pay the difference or are you happy to pay the difference. If you're not financing and are happy to hagle with the insurance company in the event of write off then you can perhaps say no to this.

Thanks gents.

Have any of the UK owners gone for this Autoglym treatment so far? I'm guessing it's something that all OPCs offer their customers on taking delivery.

I just found it a bit surprising to be confronted with another £1,000 of decisions to make, at the very time I was in there paying the balance of a £50k car, having done my sums on that basis...

Hi,

IMO the Autogym treatment isn't any better than what you can acheive yourself with the same (or other) products, its certainly overpriced (a nice little earner for the dealer).

I'm considering gap insurance, RTI (Return to Invoice) but I have found I can get the same cover myself for a fraction of what the dealer charges, In fact I can get 3 years Gap insurance plus 3 years tyre insurance for far less than the Swindon dealer quoted me for just the GAP.

We went with the GAP insurance.

As for the autoglym, I will do that myself & enjoy doing it.

Thanks for the link Submariner, I was gonna go with the GAP insurance and probably would have done it through the dealer but this is much cheaper.
