what a Co-incidence! Event, as mentioned above have just fitted a PS2 onto my fathers bosses car here- they have a mobile service.

Definately worth a bash.

Were they fronts or backs?

Fronts are still available, just the rears that are in short supply.

A pair of fronts just cost me £465 fitted.

I spoke to my local tyre dealer who is a major performance car specialist shipping tyres around the country and he confirmed what you said. He has got a number of orders backed up for TVR's. The only available tyre in that size is the Continental that he will do fitted for £200 all in. (but a long way from you though).
