Major Issue!!

Try explaining this to Mr. Plod:

"I'm very sorry I have completely bald rear tyres, officer. But you see, Michelin have sold out of 265/35 ZR19 N1 Pilot Sport 2 tyres and aren't expected to even manufacture anymore until March 2008 and they won't be in this country until mid-to-late April!!!
So that's OK, yes? I'm OK to carry on driving sideways for the next 3 months?"

This has been confirmed by 2 separate tyre suppliers in the North West.

What to do?

Jack

Does Tire Rack ship to the UK? If so click on their banner ad here and order up some tires and we get a commission!

Have you checked w/ your Porsche dealer? Tire Rack keeps inventory on hand segregated for dealers, even when they show they're on back order for the general public.

Shipping from the US to UK? Tyres? You having a laugh? It would be cheaper to sell the whole car and buy a new one!!!!!

Well that would be pretty naughty of Michelin UK if they hold separate stock for the OPCs. You are looking at over $200 difference between OPC and indy tyre dealer on just a set of rear tyres................

Jack, I don't know if Tire Rack stocks inventory in Europe or not or what their shipping would be, but it wouldn't hurt to at least check, that's better than driving around on bald tires.

When the time comes I'll prefer to stick with the PS2's too and if just the rears need to be replaced that obviously reinforces that idea. However, you may be in one of those situations where Plan B is necessary; fitting new tires at all four corners. You might check availability for:
Bridgestone Potenza RE50A
Continental Sport Contact 2
Yokohama Advan Sport
Pirelli P Zero (this tire is significantly more expensive than the PS2's)

Good luck with your hunt.

Have you tried Cost-co?

I was in t'other week getting two new fronts for the Passat and they had loads of Michelin pilot sport 2s in, unsure if they had your specific size however...

I'd buy them from there and get elsewhere to fit-wouldn't fancy letting them touch anything not made out of steel!

My father is a member if they have what you need and don't have a card.

Gary, they were one of my calls. They contacted Michelin UK and confirmed what my local fitter had told me last week. Not due to manufacture more in France until March, and not in this country until April.

Allan has found me a couple of "lightly used" examples.

I would have changed all 4 corners if I had thought about it, but only put on some new fronts last week, so a bit reluctant to fork out for another full set of tyres I don't feel are as good.

Here is a trick that I was told will work. Run over a nail. Call 1-800-Porsche. Have your car flat bedded to the dealer. Porsche will treat the situation as a customer car out of service. They will have tires for you within 72 hours from somewhere.

Regarding Tirerack, I was also told that Tirerack keeps tires for Porsche, when they don't have any to sell to us. I can't verify that, but that is what I was told by a long-time Porsche parts guy.

Thats annoying! But those lightly used examples should see you through.

Or put the car away and use Allans Cayman instead, save it getting dusty sat in the garage over winter!!
