Is this 'damaged' Cayman on eBay really repairable!
Its item number 130191309088 on eBay (uk), I can't believe this could be repaired, but if it was, would the next owner know what it had been through.
You can read most of the registration in one photo (FJ55 GA..C? unsure of last letter), looks like a right off to me, but guess it cant be if its for sale?
Very sad, hope no one was hurt.
Ooof, looks in a bad way. Everything is in theory 'repairable' but at what cost !
At £20k, I think they're perhaps being a little optimistic as there's tens of thousands needing spent here!
Ideal if someone was lookin for a project, or a starting point for a track car - if it were £10k I may be interested myself, but £20k is too much in my opinion...
I instructed someone at Virginia International Raceway once at a DE. He was in a beautiful black 911 (993 or 996), and he'd bought the car as a salvage and essentially re-built it. The car was solid, drove very nicely, and never gave a hint that it had been totaled. BUT, the student also owned a major repair facility, with frame-straightening capabilities, and spent who-knows-how-much to fix it, with untold (and unbilled!) hours to achieve a pristine example.
So, it can be done, but at what cost? How much is your time worth to you? How long would it take to repair, and do you know and trust the facility that would do it? I agree that a DIY project might be fun, but it might be weeks or months to get there.
I would normally also be very leery if you plan to track or race the car. I would have at least one or maybe two mechanics and/or body repair experts look the car over, preferably on a lift, and continue to negotiate. I agree, I think 20K is too much.
Just my two cents (American). Good luck, but keep shopping.
I wouldn't want this car. I don't see why you would want to repair this as I don't think it would ever drive right again. Just my opinion but I would look else where.
As previously posted I would look at this for a track day car, unfortunately even if the engine is good (with the rad missing , maybe not ) it's about twice too much !!!!
I would like to see better pictures of the roof, then you can tell if the main body is bent. I would make it into a race car but someone would make it road worthy. Just could you ever get the rear fenders correct looking?
