When I look at excessive consumption by people I stop and ask the question - how much do they give to charity?
I give thousands (and thousands) to charity every year. I feel that my Porsche although a bit conspicuous is okay given that I share. I'm generous with family and friends too!
So a $10,000 car detailing job is excessive to be sure. But if they can afford it - who am I to judge? I just hope that they also gave money to charity - $10,000 goes a very, very long way in some parts of the world.
50 OLPCs for example ...or about 120 Oxfam donkeys

I got a good laugh out of the guy applying wax with his hands and rubbing it in like he was giving the car a massage. Talk about excessive.
I would make a comment here, but I don't want to break any forum rules, but lets just say for that kind of money, there should be some other service being performed as well.

Not certain that was exactly what TX-KmanS was thinking about......... (Not being Sc***ed by Porsche GB), But a bit of gratuitous 'hows your father' perhaps?
Although he is right, perhaps we should set up a Detailing Franchise - where the owner brings the car over, it is cleaned washed and polished - whilst the 'punter' is entertained (Cleaned, Washed and Polished).............. I am sure that a splendid service could be had by all for £2,000 and a 'Special Service' at £3,000 for the full day... Well the mind boggles.
Hopefully we would not have to clean the car too well, as the 'punter' would be too exhausted to notice!!!! So would have to come back the next week.

I use a guy based in the Thames Valley; £150 for the last job and the lunatic took 7 1/2 hours to transform an oxidised (red) car.

A week ago I had a local detailing in Bristol do my car, about 7 1/2 hours, including several washes, claying, orbital polish, sealant, glazing, waxing, etc.
The dirt just glides off when I wash it down with just water and a mit
