Porsche Judicial Review

Sure everyone has heard about the Porsche UK fight re congestion charge changes in London for October, £25 a day for all Porsches (bar Cayman/Boxster non-S) with no residents discount, any Porsche owner living in London is paying scheduled to pay£6k a year to run the car

If you want to support Porsche it's well worth registering at Welcome.

Ready for a bit of economics?

Under Kyoto Cap-And-Trade, Carbon Dioxide is trading for about $15 per tonne on the EU carbon markets.

A Porsche Cayenne creates about 380 grams of CO2 per kilometer. Let's assume that someone drives 100km per day that they are in London (very generous assumption). That means they generate 38kg of CO2. To create the economic incentive for someone else to offset their own Carbon - you could buy 38kg of carbon credits on the market. They would cost $0.57 or about 25 pence.

That would net out the Cayenne at Carbon Parity or Net Zero emissions.

If you do the math and just offset the difference between the CO2 limit Livingstone imposed and the Cayenne performance you would have to pay about $0.23 or about 12 pence for the offset.

Livingstone is charging people $50 for something that should fairly cost $0.57. This is about ideology and not about environment. I'm an environmentalist and this offends me.

For more info - go to the Chicago Carbon Exchange - Chicago Climate Exchange. Note that CCX rates are lower than the EU rates because the caps are voluntary.

Thanks for trying. What bugs me about the change is purely headline grabbing intent behind it. Apparently the traditional black cab produces about the same CO2 as a Cayman S. There are 21,000 black cabs in London, engines running 24/7. There are much better places to start if you really want to improve emissions.

It's an absolute disgrace! You spend your whole working life working towards and aspiring to own a beautiful sports car only to find (just as it becomes a possibility) that some b*@£tard changes the rules!

One loop hole i spotted is "Cars, motorcycles and small vans (under 1.205 tonnes unladen weight) are not included in the LEZ."

Now if only we could persuade Porsche to cast their minds back to the RS!

With modern composite materials, carbon fibre etc surely it must be possible to build a 911 with current performance and safety standards being met yet under 1.2T?

Cheers

Mark

The shocking point about the UK emissions data is that it penalises cars with 6 speed transmissions. Essentially they take the data for all cars in FOURTH gear at same speed. Hence a 5 speed Cayman has lower emissions than a 6 speed. This is a crazy setup. No recognition for aerodynamic efficiency or higher gearing beyond 4th.

And we call this progress.....

Spotted the below on Marketing Week. Marketing News: Porsche wins support in battle against CC increase - Marketing Week

Quote:
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has come out in support of Porsche in its fight against the congestion charge increase. The German car marque has applied for a judicial review into plans to increase the charge to £25-a-day for the highest polluting vehicles and the borough has registered as an interested party.

Transport for London predicts up to 22,000 fewer cars will come into the congestion charge zone once the new charge comes into force on October 27. But Porsche says the charges are "disproportionate" and "unjust" and will not decrease emissions in central London (MW.co.uk, February 19).

The company officially applied for the judicial review on April 2 and Porsche Cars GB managing director Andy Goss says: "I am pleased that Kensington and Chelsea has joined us in our fight against this unfair, counter-productive tax against motorists. It is becoming increasingly clear that Londoners are rejecting this unfair £25 charge that will likely make congestion and the environment worse than it is today."

The congestion charge zone was extended to Kensington and Chelsea in February last year.

Congestion is now back to to pre Con-Tax levels with everyone paying more and 50% of the revenue going to admin.

Where can you buy those Chinese number plates?
