buying a cayman - what to pay?

i'm in the market for a cayman - i'm undecided on whether to go for the standard or wheather i 'need' an 'S'

what should i look to pay? probably looking for silver or grey, with black leather. xenons and heated seats would be nice, as would 19" wheels.

has anyone on here seen any good ones for sale?

probably a strange question - but what sort of mpg do you get out of these?

Think if I was buying and looking to spend 30k ish I'd only buy from a dealer with a warranty, but that’s just me. Do that and your talking from 36-> for an S and 34-> for a 2.7............yea you can buy a crashed one for 17 from Japan but do you really want to??
Saying that GaryC was selling a red 2.7 and was negotiable around 30k !!

Economy is what you want it to be, and how heavy your right foot is. My worst is 7.2 mpg over 3 tankfuls on a trackday.... best at 33mpg on a steady run up to Mull...Normally 22-23 is realistic That’s in an 3.4 S it'll be better in a 2.7

Try Approved Used Car Locator - Approved Used - Home - Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG
Where you will find 71 2.7's from £32,950 to £42,900 and
104 S's from £36,846 to £54,995

that's a nice car, pretty much the sort of thing i'd be looking for, although i'm not too bothered whether it's an 'S' or not..

so, private £35k for a fully spec'd 06 plate..

what i find hard is the wild variation in prices, and also that i read some other threads about people getting a pittence offered as trade in.

The full leather heated sport seats were a £3,500 option at new, dash and door panels clad in leather as well as the dash board.

The car new was £57,500 from Porsche East London!!!

I'll be selling my 2.7 soon.

Registered March 07
16 000 miles
Meteor Grey
Black Leather seats
19" Sport Design Wheels (one tiny scuff on one wheel)
Heated seats
Auto Aircon
Child seat deactivation

Washed weekly and one full (inside and out) autoglym application and one full (outside only) Zymol application by John Drake!

11 months warranty remain as does nearly two years of Gapp cover (I belive this is transferrable).

.....Perfect???

Loads on the forum have seen the car so it is honest.

Now for £36K.

Wait till end of June and it will be 20 000 miles but I'll pay for the OPC service and get it Zymol'ed professionally. Then £35K.

Let me know - other wise it is getting traded in!!

Any thoughts as to WHY there are so many Caymans for sale? I looked at Autotrader and there are a huge amount - 225 also for sale there......

How many Caymans have been sold in the UK?

Is everyone selling theirs?

WHY?

Well if Guesty99 only paid £34,950 Private then paid £850 for the 3rd year Warranty, The price at an OPC would have been something like 39 or maybe even £40,000, but the car would have had New Tyres, a service and 12 months Warranty thrown in and probably the rims professionally cleaned and repainted if needed plus a full valet and they would have paid something like £30,000 for it depending on mileage.
So the original owner lost 14k on a standard car's price or in his case £27,000 in less than 2 years............
I only know this from what Bolton offered me for my, then, 18 month old car , …….£32ish then with 14000 miles on it. My car new was £53 500 and also at that time they wouldn’t give me a final value figure for my car even though I was prepared to put a deposit down on the new one. Needless to say I thought, “ I love the car anyway “ so ……………..I bought it. THE END.

i'm in the market myself, though for a S, your right prices are all over the place, residuals from new seem to have been great though! wish i could stretch to a new one..

I bought private and also found a real bargain.

Sellers get a better price than a trade in, buyers get a better price than going to a dealer.

I use mine as a DD, so I wanted low mileage. If you don’t intend to plough loads of miles on it then look for a CS with around 20k miles for about £33k. Options don’t seem to add a huge amount of value. This is where most of the losses are when buying from new. Adding a huge specification from new is financial suicide in my opinion.

The variation in price seems to be the mileage. Maybe others have a different opinion?? I see a massive drop in prices with > 20k mileage.

Some cars in the private market will be nearing the end of their warranty. Personally I’d factor in (or negotiate) £850 to renew it. But not everyone does.

I am pro the private market. Porsche will add silly money for resale. If it already has a Porsche warranty you may as well save yourself the money and go private. If you are a confident negotiator you will be laughing.

Try the Pistonheads.com. The classifieds are pretty good and lots of dealers frequent the forums so it’s a good place for advice.

Obviously there are dangers in the private market. Get an inspection done with Porsche.
