93yr Old Driver flips fiesta onto two 911s

Anyone seen this???

A veteran driver who had not had an accident in 76 years but caused £60,000 worth of damage to two Porsche cars has spoken of his "miracle" escape.

I love the fact he lived next door to the OPC and he cannot remember how he flipped his £600 car...

Except the red ' 93 964 is £25k tops (written off because of the price of Porsche top parts), and the 993 had around £5k of rear windsreen, engine cover and PU repairs (all take from a post by the 993 owner on Pistonheads)

Unfortunately I believe we should have limits on the age of drivers or they should be asked to take yearly tests.

My uncle was recently run down and killed by an older aged driver who cut the corner she was taking and hit him while on the wrong side of the road. He died from his head injuries

In the US:

There was a nasty incident in Santa Monica a few years back when a senior driver turned into a market and killed 10 people.

Another accident that happened in Brea, CA this week....a 67 yr old woman mistook her gas pedal for her brakes and plowed into a Jenny Craig Center, injuring 2 and killing one.

My neighbor is 99. She quit driving at 90. I actually took a ride with her driving, and was very impressed with her focus, control, and maturity. All them years, an impeccable record.

Too bad this fellow didn't know when to retire from the controls ... and its great that no one was hurt.

Are you saying that a 67 year old driver should retire? How about using insurance claims and tickets as a criteria? Not age, but how responsible the driver has been.

I agree with m parey. I certainly wouldn't have the gall to pull the license of someone who hadn't had an accident in 76 years. He'll probably give it up anyway now, but he had a great driving record, and went out in a blaze of glory.

67 years too old to drive? I certainly hope not. Some people are unsafe at any age, while others are good drivers into their 90s.

Absolutely, If they are incompetent. It depends on the individual, some are capable of driving later in life than others.

There is no getting away from the facts of aging and regular driving related health and driver safety tests would make sense.

I'm sorry I find this comment distasteful.

His blaze of glory could have resulted in someones death. Please note my earlier post where my family member was killed by a clean record elderly driver cutting a corner and driving on the wrong side of the road. Her only punishment was the loss of her license.

Would you suggest she also went out in a blaze of glory.

A lot of people I seen still drive despite poor health and lifestyle eg.
You do not need to tell DVLA if you got angina
You can drive just 4 weeks after a heart attack or stroke
Not long ago, I was seeing a lorry driver drinking 56units a week but still out on our road!!
So many people are so selfish! We should only allow those who shows responsibilty and awareness of one capability on our road!! That applies to cyclist and bikers!

Agreed. There are guys like Paul Frere (recently deceased), Norman Dewis and John Fitch who are better drivers in their old age than most people are at any time. On the other hand, there are others who drive into cars, buildings and people because they can no longer cope. I suspect that dementia is a bigger problem than infirmities like deteriorating vision, hearing and reactions.
