New daily drive

Hey..

As some of you may know about a year ago I bought a Golf as a daily drive for work purposes as didn't want to put 200 miles a day on Olive.

So, had recently been thinking that 93K miles on a GTi was quite alot despite full service history. yada, yada, yada.

And, have been intirely sensible on my second car choice and bought a Golf R32.

Next step I guess is to get a Milltek on it!

Congrats! How does the R32 compare to the GTI?

From the reviews I've read so far, the engine is a little too heavy for the Golf frame thus actually hurts its performance (comparing to a GTI). It's also quite more expensive than GTI. But must be quite a daily-driver.

Great car but now I'm thinking that you could buy a Fiesta to save the miles on the R32!

Yep, good point however... I am keeping the Cayman for a good few years, I drive a fair few miles in either car, I hate cloth seats that retain horse hairs (I have a horse), I get in the Cayman after driving the golf for a few weeks and put my foot down to get on the motorway and, whey! 90mph in 3rd gear.

I have a Golf GTi dsg as my daily driver along side the cayman and its great. Previously owned the V6 4motion golf which was also a great car. Would have liked an R32 but was not prepared to wait so long for it at the time - bought the gti which I love to bits and its very good on fuel and more than quick enough. So good in fact that I resigned my cayman to a track-only car and use the golf for everything else...

Moved to Bahrain in February so both cars are garaged and gathering dust.

Nice choice Mojo, even if our Chancellor will make you weep at road tax time.

We have a plain jane white Golf Mk5 1.4, slow off the mark, but with such a fab chassis you can carry a lot of speed into corners. Built like a bank vault too. Also just bought an Audi A2 TDi, great fun as well, and 60 mpg!

What I want now is one of the new Scirrocos.

PS ... a tip on how to deal with the horse hairs ... get a couple of Maine Coon cats, and your house will be so deep in cat fluff you'll never notice the horse hairs. Ask me how I know?

Well, the Chancellor may well try and make us all drive Nissan Micra's but I don't care and will stomach the extra on road tax and drive the car I want to. (under financial duress) I get to expense the congestion charge so that doesnt bother me either.

My GTi was a great little car although when I first got it had a few issues on roads i drive regularly in the Cayman and corners being somewhat interesting!

Anyway, BarMan gave me an extremely good deal on p/ex and the R32 so... in my usual sensible style........................

Maine Coons? I've got a couple of Burmese and Asians and that creates huge amounts of fluff around the house especially with wooden floors. Its not too much of a problem other than when I am suited and booted for work then it rather spoils the look!

Not had it long enough to really compare however, bloody hell, its fast! Had it on the motorway the other day and you can just feel it itching to go faster. And yes, it is a superb daily drive and will stop me losing my license when in the Cayman as with the GTi I used to go out on the motorway and reach over 100 miles an hour too easily.
