Very glad to hear that Porsche were good to you. I think it would have been a little ridiculous for a 10K miles car, 3 months out of warrenty, to have such a major failure, and Porsche to stand by and do nothing.
Good result, and let us know when the car is back on the road.
Just to share my joy,I got my CS back last week with a new gearbox all paid for by Porsche.I also purchased the extended warranty, peace of mind after the fright of the gearbox.
Good news, and probably wise choice in the circumstances. If I had had to make a big claim like that during the warranty period, I would have kept it up too.
Hope the car proves bullet-proof for you from now on.
My car is 2 years old in November and I received a letter form the dealer today inviting me to book my car for an inspection and to extend the warranty for a third year for about $1,540. The brochure they sent says that the warranty extension is a "manufacturer" warranty and not dealer specific. They also say that I can keep extending up to 9 years!, provided that my car has full Porsche service history and is not modified. My car has Km 13,000 so I have a bit of a dilemma. It breaks down to about $4.20 a day and suddenly starts to make more sense.
I've had the extended warranty on my previous Boxster S and it was worth the money, I like to tour in Europe if I get chance in the summer and breakdown recovery is included cross europe so that's a chunk of value, I had an oil pump in one cylinder head had to be replaced and most years get most of the value back. Plus there's the piece of mind in case of something really serious going wrong. I'll be sticking with it when it come due next month.
Porsche are now refusing to provide a warranty on any car that has had ANY non Porsche modifications. So if you've had a set of wheels, a re-map, bluetooth kit, a sports exhaust, an iPod interface, anything that's not Porsche approved then you'll not be able to take out an extended warranty. If your car slips through the net and the OPC allows warranty renewal by telephone (not supposed to happen under the new regime but we'll wait and see) and you don't declare your mods, then any subsequent claim will be rejected.
That makes for some interesting reading Mojo, I think its something to think very hard about and check in fine detail just what is covered by the warranty before stumping up such a large sum, including the annual check-up, etc.
Also a lot of cars are going to fall out of the scheme because of the no 3rd party involvement.
It might be something Porsche want, but I bet the dealerships are going to catch a cold on this: crazy:
