Talking 2009 cayman s

Hello,

Just been to the garage to talked to them about a year old 911 I noticed in stock. Ended up talking to them about the new CS instead. I had a good think about it and decided a new CS is the better choice for me.

There will be a "special" edition of some form and they will take deposits now for delivery in March/April. Only needed to put down £3000.

If you put the deposit down now, you will be able to go and spec it in Jan.

Will include PDK as an option.

Another new option will be bluetooth and touch screen PCM.

Can't wait!

According to an interview with PNA on this site, PDK will not be an option for the Cayman, at least in the US, for a few years.

Hmmm... I've been told categorically that it will. Otherwise i would not have given them the deposit.

Suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

Interesting to see that press reception to PDK has been pretty luke-warm. Reading between the lines its been aimed at the Tip/non-enthusiast drivers, for example the controls use the Tip system not paddles. I was also interested to see Audi admit that 95% of DSG owners just stick it in 'D' and leave it. The engineering is very clever, but to me it sounds like its 'just' a less bad automatic.....

Of course, that maybe your thing, but I'd be getting more excited about the effect of DI on the engine power/efficiency, cockpit revisions and the new front suspension. The '09 Cayman could be brilliant.

And the enthusiast wouldn't dream of electric windows either.

Pdk

Having read Car and Autocar tests of the revised 997 with PDK, they are very enthusistic about PDK. Not sure about getting it yet on my next Cayman though.

Yes, the links on another thread were all raving about PDK except the control buttons- not a hint of the idea 'it's not for enthusiasts'. If you have any articles that back that up, I really want to read them.

I don't think it is wise to label Tip or PDK owner non-enthusiast drivers as this is an American website which most licence holder never experience manual car during their driving career---you cannot drive a manual car if you pass your test with an automatic.

Porsche has changed their product over the years to cater for a wider audience---owners of big Jags/SLs, technophiles, woman driver etc... They had also diversify their product---The Cayenne and the upcoming Panarama

I can see current Tiptronic driver will just swap their cars with PDK and cont to leave their gearstick in D to drive to work. There might be some manual drivers who buy into this technology and swap their manual car to pdk.
