Is anyone else slightly worried??
About the reported poorish sales figures (in the UK) which has resulted is poor risidual values which of course means higher payments should you be paying for your car monthly?
I for one cant understand it the car has received rave reviews (other than by Clarkson) looks great and drives well.
I got my quote for finance when the car was still relativly new and a high residual value was given i am now getting worried that as i am now approching the time when i will actually have to finance the car the payments will go up because of the poorer residual.

i dont know if i am ,i think quite a few speculators ditched the cars as soon as they could because they could not see much profit but the build time was 5 months in feb and i read on this forum that the wait could be 12 months now .the truth is that no cars really hold their value anymore not even porsche just look at other forum where 997 owners are seething over poor part-ex offers for new cars at dealer .
the car is fantastic and when /if you get it depreciation is the last thing on your mind ,however if the finacial burden of a car like this put too much strain on the budget then it is not worth it no car is and believe me i have done it and lost thousand on cars i convinced myself i could afford ,belive me a cayman will be a heart breaker if you have to sell after only a few months .

I may have to pay the MSRP on a car but I'll be damned if I'll pay over that on an extra bonus for a guy in a dealership that is hardly working as the cars are more or less selling themselves. This is especially true if the car is $70,000. I don't know what people are expecting. This is not like the new Civic which I have seen hundreds of since it was realeased here a few short months ago. Its an expensive car and regardless of how well it sells its still going to be a miniscule number of cars compared to a (more)mass-produced car like the Honda. The reason, at least here, that you can go into a dealership and drive off with a car from stock is that a lot of people are special ordering the car they want with the stuff they want and aren't interested in the mostly fully loaded examples that are on the salesroom floor.

<div>Try to think why you chose the Cayman when you first visited the dealer. It is clear from the massive majority of threads on this board that owning this car is about its dynamic qualities. No one really expects the car to be a low cost ownership experience.</div>
<div></div>
<div>To be honest all mass produced cars depreciate no matter which brand you name. There is simply no reason to believe theCayman will be any worse than any of its competitors. This car will be in short supply for the next 3 - 4 years so should be better than average.</div>
<div></div>
<div>What new car in the £45k performance category is likely to be a sure bet to outperform the Cayman in terms of depreciation?</div>
<div></div>
<div>Low cost of ownership is a Golf Tdi etc not a Porsche</div>

Guys,
I think many new buyers are looking at lower than usual depreciation and they are not going to be wrong.
Have a look at how much nearly new BoxsterS's are selling at and you'll see that depreciation isn't too great.
The Cayman should hold up just the same if not slightly better as it is more desirable. The fact that the car may have to be driven for around 10,000 miles in order for it to truly break in and appreciate may help but all Porsches hold-up well and you may have to wait until the Summer to see this which is when more cars are sold and buyers are more desperate to have their cars asap.
I would look at residual values in a Years time as a good gauge as to whats happening in the 2nd hand market, right now is too early to tell.
I agree that the car is great and it's not benefitting from Porsches failure to focus and promote on the acheivements of this car in the Motoring Press - Porsche is still concentrating on promoting variants of the 911 and Cayenne and must be hoping that the Cayman sells itself! Which may be a little negligent as all of their cars (now that theres more!) will need more of a marketing push.
Some people have said that if Porsche put their force behind the CaymanS then maybe most of the UK allocation would be spoken for by now but you know not that many people in the general public apart from us really know what this car is about - most everyday people who see my car still think its a 911 variant it may take a while for the car to make its mark even though its getting rave reviews.

When I bought the cayman, I don't expect the residuals is going to be better than the boxster. I spend loads of time telling my friend this is better than a boxster s. I am giving up on that now! Most cannot understand whyI paid more for a hardtop. I guess this is what makes this forum special as we belong to that small group of car enthusiast who buy car for their dynamic qualities rather thanposing or driving fast from a to b!
From the threads that I had been reading the last couple of days, I am actually very impresswith most contributors with theirknowledge on car! Most seems to be addicts!
What will make this cayman sells will be a price tag lower than the boxster sandshare the 3.4l engine! Saying this I had no regret with my purchase and enjoy it everyday!
PS I almost bought a second hand 996! I am relief that I manage to resist that and wait for the cayman to arrive! What a fab car!
