Hi all, I've got a Cayman S on the way - should pick it up on saturday.
Just wanted to say that I've had a good look through this site, and I'm very impressed with how it's so organised - look forward to spending some more time on here!
How many UK guys have we got on here also? I'm in London, so see a few Caymans about, will be using East London Porsche for servicing etc... anything to watch out for with them?
I also want to get cruise control retrofitted to my CS, I asked East London Porsche for a price (in the Tequipment options) - anyone know how much it'll be from them, and how hard is it to fit yourself?
Drive the car for a month before you fit the cruise control - it will cost the same a month later and you may decide you don't need it? I never spec it!

I get knee pain when driving any car long distance (say over 2hrs), so cruise is something I can't live without!
mex99 could be on to something. I have cruise on my CS but almost never use it. The CS is so fun to drive without the cruise. Of course if you are taking a long trip then cruise is nice to have but it takes some enjoyment out of it. For daily driving around, even for a few hours at a time, I don't use the cruise. And I use cruise every time I drive my other car to maximize fuel economy, but the CS is so enjoyable without using cruise, I don't really need it for most of my driving in the CS. It might not be a bad idea to wait a month and decide if you still need the cruise control.

I know exactly what you mean about not using it day to day - I wouldn't ever use it when I'm driving on good roads, or having a play. The only reason I need it is for long boring motorway journeys, just sitting at 70-80mph letting the miles roll on. Thats where I usually get knee ache.
Porsche still havent got back to me with a price yet, I'll chase them up!
The euro price (from the german website is) : 340 Euros plus tax
The price from quoted on the US pelicanparts website is: $483.75
Even if you fit the parts yourself you will need the dealer or someone with a PIWIS to enable the function.
PIWIS - Porsche Integrated Workshop Information System
Porsche Integrated Workshop Information System (diagnostic tester) This device is used to test various aspects of your Cayman's computer and electronic systems. These units cost over $12,000 to purchase and are connected to Porsche via a wireless connection at the dealership so that your Cayman's information can be sent to Porsche whenever your car is attached for diagnosis. The PIWIS device has the ability to control almost any system in your car provided that your car has the appropriate control units and programming installed. Your dealership may not perform some activities such as disabling safety equipment.

Darren, When is your new car here.........drove one today, PDK an all, I'm Impressed
The car will be here for 1st Sept - but rumour has it they are running a few weeks early so maybe early August.
I drive the car next Monday at Silverstone so will see - think I have nailed the spec with PDK, SPASM (inc the -20mm and LSD) and SC Plus. It will be awesome.
Just so you know though, I'll probably still let you overtake me on the track just to keep your pride up!!
LSD - Limited Slip Differential
A limited slip differential (LSD) is a modified or derived type of differential gear arrangement that allows for some difference in rotational velocity of the output shafts, but does not allow the difference in speed to increase beyond a preset amount. In an automobile, such limited slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity.
The main advantage of a limited slip differential is found by considering the case of a standard (or "open") differential where one wheel has no contact with the ground at all. In such a case, the contacting wheel will remain stationary, and the non-contacting wheel will rotate freely– the torque transmitted will be equal at both wheels, but will not exceed the threshold of torque needed to move the vehicle, thus the vehicle will remain stationary. In everyday use on typical roads, such a situation is very unlikely, and so a normal differential suffices. For more demanding use however, such as driving off-road, or for high performance vehicles, such a state of affairs is undesirable, and the LSD can be employed to deal with it. By limiting the velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels, useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.

After driving that one this week..."let" is the operative word. What a bit of kit

Forgive my ignorance, but how do you pronounce PIWIS? Pee-wees, P-I-W-I-S? Also, I have researched it and have read what the diagnostic and programming tool can do, but have not been able to find out what the letters actually stand for. I have what I suspect to be a faulty engine fan sensor switch and want to ask my dealer to run a PIWIS readout, but don’t want to sound like a dimwit when I make the request…

Is cruise control standard or an option? Or is that just a US thing? Mine is an S and has cruise, but I don't think it was an option. I love it for long drives- or when I have to be careful about the speed limit. 80 comes quickly if you let your right ankle relax at all.....
