First Service Tomorrow........

I dropped off the 'Yellow Peril' at Porsche GB Headquarters Reading this evening (They have 24 hour Security and you can arrange to drop your car off at any time).

Heaven knows what they will make of all the modifications.

I asked them to do a service 'light' General Check..........

I have only done 6,550 miles and already changed the Oil/Filter Twice and also the Brake Fluid Twice......... No Windscreen wiper change, No Cabin Air Filter (I have 3 spares in my garage and will change myself at 10,000 miles).

I did ask them to do the Trunk Clunk Fix. Here they refused even though I sent them the works details and part number last week when I booked it in. They told me they had to take the whole car apart...... I told them not to touch it just do what I asked and if it did not solve it Never mind....

I did also ask for the Vacuum Servo Assist Pump to be checked out, as at low speed stop start traffic, I have had the stiff brake pedal = No Braking on 3 occasions and I can replicate this when going downhill....... Foot off Accellerator (Engine Going) brake lightly until no vacuum assist left.

I also asked for the Airbag Warning light to be turned off as my New seats do not have the thorax airbags.......
Initially they said they would not do this as it is a safety feature...... I explained that it was a 'false warning' because there were no airbags on my nice new racing setas..... and I wanted the airbag fault to advise me if there really was a fault in the other bags - After explaining this several ways the service manager still did not understand......

I'll report back and keep you posted of the rubbish I expect to hear from them!

I suppose it's reassuring - in some twisted way - to learn that the service advisors in the UK suffer from the same cranio-rectal inversion as many of their US counterparts.

I see that I am going to have to pack my PIWIS in my luggage the next time I visit home. Good luck and I hope that you have a spare shirt as they will surely have the other one off your back.

Without actually getting as far as making changes to my car, this is the same attitude the Bristol dealership gave me when I asked about upgrading the brake hoses and brake fluid.

They said that they would not touch the car if it had non OEM parts. Will be interesting to see what happens in your case.

Karel, a couple of things.
1) Have you told them NOT to touch your brake fluid, as is competition fluid…Otherwise they will change it for standard stuff and charge you £120 for the pleasure.
2) Have you taken your own Mobil 1 oil. (Bolton knocked £150 off my bill for this)
3) Expect the following phone call "Mr Deeley, you front brake disc's are cracking. We can replace them for you at a cost of £7**.**" (Yes that’s seven hundred and something)You then say "Is the cracking around the cross drilling or between them" They say "it’s around". You say "leave it"
4) This first phone call will be followed by a second.....same conversation about the rear brakes. (at £6**.**)
5 You will then have a third phone call about your worn wiper blades at £55.00 fitted
6) You will then have a fourth phone call re "Freshening up you Air Conditioning" ...Please ask them what they do for the further £52 that they wish to charge you, as I fell on the floor in fits of laughter when they told me …….”well we spray a nice smelling aerosol around the vents and other places that it may need it”.#
Just pay the bill (should be less than £300) and make sure they stamp you’re Service book, mine conveniently forgot.
I never had any problem with any of the none-Porsche bits fitted to my car, just got a “looks really cool and brutal mate” when I picked it up then they gave the game away a little bit by saying “It’s the best handling Cayman that we’ve had in here ……!!!

Where do we stand re insurance should a dealership have an accident in our car when test driving it?

Are they covered and therefore would fit any bill to repair? pretty sure our own insurance wont cover it just comes to mind after Allan's comment

Continuing on from James's comment, a couple of months ago, a friend with a 996 turbo took his car in for service. He got a phone call from one of his friends mid afternoon complaining to him for almost driving him off the road and cutting him and 2 other cars up, and to use his words “driving like a", shall we say, "Prat".
Needless to say it wasn’t him but some spotty youth taking his pride and joy for a test drive.
The only good thing to come out of it was that his £1500 bill was ripped up and he paid nothing after complaining to the dealer principle about the incident. Lucky his mate thought it was him I suppose, otherwise he’d never have known.

Well I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised.......
I was transferred (from the original spotty oik) to what appears to be the GT3/Motorsport Service Adviser - Richard Singleton, who looked after me wonderfully well - understood everything that I wanted.

And even did not bat an eyelid, when I asked for the price to fit the bigger Motorsports Oil/Air Separator (996.107.926.00) to stop all the smoke that I produce on the track = £469.41p

The Service was charged as 1 hour labour only.

The 'Trunk Klunk' fix was done as requested.

The Brake Servo Vacuum assist was investigated, found to be leaking and replaced under warranty. (Even though my brakes have been abused and somewhat changed from the original!)

The Airbag warning light was turned off.

I think my decision to take the car to Porsche GB Headquarters was the right one. When I delivered it for service - various Porsche executives came out to see the 'Yellow Peril' and were quite positive in their comments. (They did not know that Porsche made a Cayman GT!)

I don't think that I would get this service from the Guildford Dealership (which is nearer to my home) as they are a completely different set of stuck up, so and so's.

So James if Junction 12 off the M4 is easy for you to reach try them.

I got a letter reminding me that mine needs to go in for a service in August. Was wondering if Parr auto-sport could do the service for me but then I guess the dealer stamp in the book is what really matters. Not sure where I will check mine into...probably Cardiff. Curiously, what should the bill be for a scheduled 2 year service (this will be its first service and its only done 10,000 miles)??? What do they actually do in this first service? Frankly my car doesnt need servicing since Parr do it for me regularly anyway - however, I do need that stamp. Can I get away with a straight oil change - nothing else??
