I'm guess that's the Targa Florio GT40? Yes is the answer; it appeared in two of its three races, not the last. The 'Plateau 4' race was a GT40 festival; 7 of them out at the front running over 180mph on the quick section after Mulsanne corner. The next group were three Cobra GT's.
Most of the post-war classes included Porsches, I saw 356s, 550RS's, RS61, 904's, 904/6's, 906's, 914/6, 907's, 908/3, 935K3's, 911T/R, 911R, 911RS, 911RSR 2.8 and 3.0, and 936's, all racing hard at one of the fastest road circuits in the world.
Four 917's (count 'em; four, at ~$3m/each) practised for the Plateau 5 race, two Gulf cars, and Martini and Salzburg 917K's. To see the Salzburg car come over the Dunlop Bridge at dusk, down the new S bends, and then wriggle under power existing Tetre Rouge onto the Mulsanne made the hairs on my neck rise up!
A friend I travelled with is the photographer. The last I heard he was working through the 500+ shots he'd taken, I'll post a link to the album once he's sorted.
