I'm about a month into my first Porsche car and I'm still debating with myself whether to go for the clear film protective stuff for the front of the car. It's not as much of an issue in the summer but I can see myself being concerned come winter and the general increase in road grime, dirt and grit.
It's a daily driver for me so it will have to get through the winter on the lovely M6 and M62 motorways in the North West. I just wondered if others had thought about this, installed or not? One argument against the install I've seen is that for the cost of the film you could cover some touch up/repairs before selling (given it's more about resale value for me than much else).
If I do go for it does anyone know a good installer in Lancashire?
I have the 3m film on my CS.It was installed in Grantham,Linconshire.For me it is more about keeping the car lookinggood for as long as possible.Mine is not a daily driver, if it wasI wouldn'tbother as you have no chance of keeping it pristine.May as well do any minor repairs if required when you sell. J
I give it a big thumbs up, I just drove 4000 miles (a gajillion kilometers) and would not have done so without it because the front end would have been peppered with rock chips from all of that highway driving. You might call Invincaman Alan Seligman and see if he has a recommended installer in your area and I know he's traveled to Europe before for installs.
I marked mine with a stone that flew up on the way back from London when I picked it up.!!! So I decided that maybe once a year or so to paint the bottom PU.
Since then I've only got one more small scratch in 9 months and 8000 miles, so maybe I'll leave it till it's time to sell..and then again maybe not....
People have very different opinions about this. Some love it - say it's invisible, etc. I was going to buy some, but went for a wander around the carpark at my OPC, looking at those with/without - and decided not to buy it.
I'm getting it installed on my car as we speak. I live in Nashville, TN and I'm getting it done at Xtreme Window Tinting in Franklin, TN. They are the only authorized dealers of 3M and Xpel computer cutting in the area. They cut the film to size using a computer program, so it fits perfectly. I will let you guys know later on how it went. I'm getting my CS and Odyssey minivan done because they gave me a good deal for both.
I had it installed on my car in March and I think it's great. Totally protects the front of the car and is only slightly visible along the edge. Looking at the number of marks on the shield I can see that I would now be looking at lots of stone-chips ! I wouldn't hesitate to fit one again.
My car is arctic silver and there is no way anyone can say the film is invisible. J
Interesting comment. My car is AS as well and I have had people stand right next to the car and not see it. You have to get to just the right angle and play of the light and then it's only most visibly detected on the lip of the film on the hood.
Some people can see it and some can't. I can see it very clearly, from almost any angle. The line across the hood sticks out prominently to me. I'd rather deal with touching up the rock chips every few years, which is no big deal IMHO.
I've had mine for 5 months and like it so much I just had it installed on the wife's new MDX. There's only one very small spot on my car where something frayed the film. That's all. It also seems like the bugs come off easier than they do from the paint.
My Toyota Tacoma came with some film from the factory at strategic locations. All I can see is the edge of the film. Very distracting. There is no way I am putting it on my Cayman. I see all the posts about the positives of the film, but I just may be picky. I would rather look at small rock dings rather than huge film edges. On my truck, fine, but my sports car, I don't think so.
Caveats: I live in Austin, TX, so there are no issues with winter weather. Plus, my Cayman is not a daily driver.

I just did the front bumper and not the front hood. This way it do not have the line on the hood which I did not like.
