Definative Ride-Height Thread!

I've been looking at more pics, and my ride height does look high. So I'd like to see if all the new cars on the road are all the same, or if there is a discrepency between cars.

So can everyone with a car please measure the clearence?

I am going to recommend that we measure from the bottom of the arch to the rim of the alloy.

This is because measuring from the arch to the tyre is very very vague. This measurement won't give us the exact clearence of wheel to arch, but it should tell us if all cars are equal, or not.

And if you happen to be going down to your dealer, how about checking out a couple of their cars.

Obviously, when you post up the measurements you need to say whether you are running stock supsension or PASM, and if you are on 18' or 19' wheels.

Thanks

Jack

. . .incidently I did the math and the overall diameter of the 19' wheel and tyre combo is greater than that of the 18' irrespective of the lower profile tyre on the 19' by approx 26mm which means with PASM the top of the tyre is approx 13mm closer to the underside of the arch but the base of the car is technically the same height from standard suspension with 18's as with PASM suspension and 19's.

Philcoh,

How do you find the ride on 19" wheels with the standard suspension? That's what I ordered and I am wondering if the ride might be too harsh because of the lower profile and the 19" tires get 3 more pounds of pressure than the 18" tires.

Thanks,

Ruby

Ruby, if you look at my previous posts i noted the ride was crash bang wallop, however maybe my imagination or I am getting used to it but after a week or so the ride seems to be far more acceptable and now I dont even notice how hard it is.

Philcoh,

Thanks. That is encouraging. I am used to my BMW M3 running tires with a 40 aspect ratio. I have also noticed that most of the Caymans with 19" wheels at the dealers here in the US that I looked at do not have PASM.

. . . I'll measure mine for you at the weekend when I get a chance. Incidently, my main reason for speccing the PASM was the fact that all the demo/show cars with it had a definate stance advatage over the non PASM equipped cars and it always looked more substancial than the quoted 10mm and when mine was sat in the dealer workshop next to another croc without I knew I'd made the right choice.

If it really annoys you just get the H+R springs over the OEM dampers and drop it by 25mm - did this to the V6 TT I just got rid of and those springs were fantastic.
