Snow, ice, floods and sun... a trip to the office

Well, my first experience of some interesting weather with my CS today, heading from Lancashire across to Sheffield. Not a hint of bad weather when I set off but heading across country the snow quickly became evident. After an aborted trip across the A57 (closed) and avoiding the bus that was sliding towards me on ice with all its wheels locked up (fortunately the BMW behind me spotted it as well so I could reverse, quickly) I headed an alternative route, some 1 hour later in queues of traffic, this route quickly became unpassable and not too much rear end grip, back to the third route option and this was fine, very scenic infact with pure white snow on the hills and just a little ice on the roads but plenty of winter sun.

Then came the floods, I dare not think how deep my CS went in today but nothing came inside, and I had this twice, just cleared the first when around another turn was another foot deep flood to navigate. It gave the guys truing to clear the drains or something a laugh anyway - maybe it was the look of horror on my face... glad the engine was in the rear though, less chance of water coming up and into the electrics I thought.

Next came the sun, driving head on into the sun which was reflecting off the snow and the wet roads it was a visibility nightmare.

Finally arrive in Sheffield 3 hours later (only 60 miles!) and the NCP car park I was recommended is only big enough for an original Mini, I do a quick tour with my heart in my mouth (one of these car parks in an old building I think with the ramps narrow and concrete kerbs that are far too high), off there and head for a pay and display... phew job done and I'm now onsite at the customer.

More of an adventure than I anticipated for a Monday morning but the Cayman coped well, with me being the most worried in the car park.

Here's to a less eventful rest of the week

white knuckles

Sounds like a pretty stressful trip. I would have had to sit in the car for a few minutes afterwords and try to pry my fingers from the steering wheel.

Hope the trip back was smooth sailing.
