Any of you new owners noticed any rattles in your Caymans? Nothing worse than getting a new car and finding you spend half your time listening out for where rattles and sqeaks are comming from. I'm hoping mine is rattle free.
Don't get my car til March but the OPC test car had a niggly rattle from the rear luggage area which they were non too happy with. Also they were looking to adjust the rear boot lock as there were some vibrations and movement of the boot was causing pressure differentials in the cabin. This gave the occupants a degree of discomfort in their ears, similar to flying.
Not sure if this because the Cayman's actually a flying machine or not

What is even worse is that the very small cabin area in the Cayman makes any problems seem even worse as they are so close to your ears. I have a nasty 'plastic against plastic' clickingsound in mine which I have been investigating. I am fairly certain it is in the rear sidetrim on the passenger's side and I suspect that this was removed to fit the Tracker (=LoJack) antenna. I was nervous about being one of the first to have their cars torn apart to install the Tracker but my insurance company insisted.
Yes, rattles coming from the boot area. They apear to be from the hatch and sound either metallic or like loose glass depending where the jolt on the road comes from.
There are no 'annoying' persistant rattles, only ones from jarring over sharp bumps/ridges.
One other strange rattle is if the revs are held at 2200 rpm when the engine is cold. This produces a metallic buz that sounds like a heat-shield. It goes once the engine is warm.
When I took one out for a test drive I could hear a rattle over bumps from the backend, I hope mine doesn't do this, not paying nearly 50k for a car that rattles over bumps. No way
Mine is fine, so far I am very pleased with the build quality. I noticed all the dealer demo cars had rear body panels that did not fit nicely, I was worried that my car would be the same but it is not. My dealer reckons that the dealer demos were not as well built as the customer cars, my observations would confirm this.
porscheplayer, I think there is more likelyhood of rattles in this car because of the stiffness of the suspension, and large wheel diameter/thin tyre sidewall.
If you drive on smoth roads, it's not a problem, but around country lanes, filled with pot holes and dinks, you're going to get some rattles.
Like I said, on normal roads there is no annoying rattle from anywhere, only when crashing over ridges and pot holes. But then show me a sportscar at any price than wouldn't.
You have to expect rattles in any new Porsche - just the way they are (unless you are very lucky). I bought a brand new 2002 996 C2 (only 25 miles on odometer) and it rattled all the way home from the dealer. Unfortunately, they don't build 'em like they used to...

To right, a new Porsche shouldn't rattle over the worst bumps,,other supposed lesser car don't, why shouldPorsche?
Stiff suspension is nothing to do with it, my 996, S2000 and even my TVRwere rattle free.
Take it to the dealers and get it sorted.

Guys, you are worrying me here! If there is one thing about a vehicle that really bothers me it’s squeaks and rattles. As the Cayman will be the most expensive car
that I have purchased to date, I am certainly expecting it be free from extraneous noises. My
$30,000 Mini Cooper S with sport suspension, which is very firm,
2 years and 12,000 miles over the abysmal roads
around here has remained totally free from rattles and squeaks, I expect nothing less from the Cayman
My Cayman developed a squeak from the rear hatch and a rattle from the passenger side door. Took it back to the OPC and they seem to have fixed the door rattle. The hatch squeak is caused by the two rubber spacers that stop the hatch - OPC smeared some silicon lube on them, but it hasn't fixed the problem. Fortunately these noises don't happen all the time, and are completely inaudible when listening to music...

Since I have little faith in any dealer being prepared to spend enough time to fix all the squeaky trim problemsI am well stocked will silicone-based grease and sprays. Whenever I have taken a car back to a dealer for such issues they usuallystate they they cannot hear them. But this is all part of the game and I cannot recall any newcar that I have bought (and that is a large number, 50+) that has beenacceptable in this respect. It usually takes me 3 months to get a new car to the standard that I expect and can live with. I had a 968 Sport that was so bad that I threatened to set fire to it outside the Porsche dealer.
Anybody that buys a new car that has no rattles or squeaks is either very lucky, has very different standards to me or has a hearing problem. Or maybe they just listen to the radio instead.
