Build date confirmed !!!

Due to be completed on January 10th 2006, and should be available at the dealers by the last week of January !!!

This presents a dilema though. Take it as soon as possible (and resisting could be hard !) or let it stand at the dealers til March 1st for a new '06 plate !?!

Does the registraion number make that much difference nowadays (especially if looking to keep it for 3 years ) ?

Of course I also have to sell the 350z to make space first.

hmmmm. a nice problem to have !

Oh come on... you really think you could let it sit at the dealer for 30+ days? I rather get a root canal.

...and I thought I had a hard decision to make... pick it up on the 23 Dec or wait a week and have a 2006 registered car? For me, if its ready on the 23rd I'll be camping outside the dealers until they open

Tonse,

Good luck trying to wait, that would be impossible for me. I am sure they are people reading this wishing they had your situation. Just think what a Christmas that would be!

Santa Fe

We have a very strange system over here. Car regestration numbers are changed twice a year. it used to be once, but that changed around 5 years ago.

We used to have a single change in August, now we have September 1st and march 1st reg changes.

The current system is umericlly based. This Sept, we started on a '55' plate. March 06 will be an '06' plate, and Sept 06 will be a '56' plate, March 07 and '07' etc etc

Then there is an 06 regestration, which just means the car was regestered as a new vehicle in 06. All these things make very slight differences to resale value, though I feel it is becoming less and less critical to price.

Dont blame you Pete - have a great day !

Santa Fe, in the UK the registraion number contains a number which tells the six month period in which the car was first registered. For 'historical' reasons these six month periods are 1st March to 31st August, and 1st September to 28th (or 29th) Feb. So a car registered before 1st of March 2006 will have a 55 in the reg number (the first five means 'second half of the year', and the second five means 2005), and a car registered after 1st March 2006 will have a 06 in the number, ie RX06 PCA. The first two letters of the plate refer to where the car is first registered, the second two denote the time of registration and the last three are random (I think). Only the Brits could come up with such a system !!!

Hence the reason for the plate concerns - you can see by the plate how old the car is, which has an effect on resale value. If I take my car in February 2006 it will be an 55 plate, which refers to any car from 1st Sep 05 to 28th Feb 06.

Just learned that mine is being built on Dec 22nd and should be here by mid January. Orginally it was scheduled for production in January for a March registration. I might still wait funtil March to register it, after all I've waited this long, what's another few weeks ? That's until I get to see it of course

Guys - mine will be similar. I'm going to wait until 1st March.

Yep that's going to be frustrating.

Good luck with your own decisions - if mine wasn't quite so dependent upon my own personal finances it would be a much harder call.

John -

There really is no exact science on this. I placed my order first week of Sept. for a Nov build date. Was told in early Nov that it had been pushed back slightly to the beginning of Dec. Last I heard my car was completed early Dec and was waiting on a boat. Others had their orders bumped up the production line. So you can be given a build date, but it certainly isn't set in stone. Best thing to do is get regular updates from your dealer........and even then they may not be spot on.
