no brakes

did a track day at colerne nr bath today, but had to stop after lunch.
the brake pad warning light came on and the brake pedal seemed to be getting longer in travel. on inspection the pad material seems to be wearing very unevenly , with parts of the pad coming away from the body and the wear sensors touching the discs but with plenty of material at the hub end of the pad.
i know the tyres are nearly shot , but i was expecting the pads to do longer service. do you think ill get any of this done under warranty ?
the car is 3 months old and used mostly for track day work. (its done four now)
it has now covered 1500 miles.
if not warranty can anyone recomend a pad upgrade ?
the car is a 2.7 with the smaller brakes ,and they pull the car up on track days fine.
cheers.

That's really strange. I'd have the shop check to make sure there's no defect in the pad or rotor.

I've got 16,600 miles on mine, including 14 hard track days, and on Sunday I had the brake pad wear indicator alert on my on-board while on the track. Scared the **** out of me, as I couldn't read what the alert was while in a fast pack of 914-6's on the track and was concerned about a hydraulic failure while at speed. After exiting the track and reading the alert, I did a visual, and my pads were all at least 4-5/16 thick, so I got back on. The alert stayed on for the next 20 min run, recurring after starting the car and applying the brakes, but after that session, the alert went away and hasn't come back.

Gonna have my brakes done this week, but I don't think this is the best way to alert the driver. How about the OBD-2 keeping the alert and notifying each time you START the car, while you're stationary and can read it!

Greg

I doubt you will get them done under warranty. 4 trackdays doesn't sound too bad to me, depending on the type of track. I assume you gave them a good lap to cool off before coming in? I also found braking harder for shorter time worked well to preserve fluid and pads.

I went through standard pads in 3 track days. I then put orange pagids in front and blue pagids in rear (on advice from local Porsche Motorsport). These lastest about 10 more track days so much better, and orange and blue was spot on as the pads wore evenly. My car has now done 14,000kms and I have just installed my 3rd set of pads. Rotors have some cracks but are still OK. Factory tyres are only 30% worn, but I have almost been through my first set of track tyres. The race pads squeal like crazy. I leave them in the whole time.

You’ll struggle to left foot it, as the car will cut out, I’m presently looking for a way round the fly by wire sensors on the throttle/brake pedals

Ah, that explains something. I occasionally do a bit of gentle left foot braking after I've washed the car, just to dry the brakes, but the Cayman doesn't like it.
