The market of buying Porsches new seems to differ greatly between the UK and the US.
Most of the members on this site are based in North America where a discount on new cars in the norm and dealers undercut each other for business. Also i've noticed a car can be ordered and delivered within a much smaller timescale than I experienced here in the uk.
As for discount? Nothing; but the aim I guess is to get perhaps the Mats (£90) or Coloured wheel centres (£107) in for free.
Before I even got past the test drive stage the Porsche Centre staff said than no discount would be offered. Still, give it a try.
I personally think the main part would be to see which Porsche Centre can get the car the quickest; I've waited just under six months and the car completed build on monday so its not far away.
I'm in Jersey, not the UK (which may make a difference) and I managed to get mats, Bose and didn't pay for the Porsche Driving Experience. I wasn't expecting the PDE but have since had an invitation. I'm paying cash with no trade in and was in no hurry to buy. That said, I had to do all the work, the dealer didn't seem to care.
One factor in my discount may be that I did the deal just before Christmas with their year-end targets looming.
In my experience, you ask for discount, the dealer will potter off 'to speak to their manager' then come back with an answer. Be patient and firm. I eventually got to see the manager who played the same trick - wandered off on some pretext to check - then came back and said yes if I paid the deposit there and then. So I did.
The car's not arrived yet, mind you and I had little confidence in the dealer getting my options right.
Almost all dealers give free mats, in my experience.
I read somewhere in this forum that a guy got free mats and coloured wheel crests (see how useful the forums are!?) so thats what I got.
It took a lot of long silences and the salesman's mandatory visits to his manager, being offered cheap Gap Insurance and Autoglymn, but I just held out. I pointed out I had visited several OPCs and knew from the forums that this (after all very small) deal was available and I didn't mind where I bought the car.
Not every body likes doing this (i.e. me) and may not consider it worth it for a hundred quid or so. But, hey, it's nice to get a deal.
Best of Luck
Dave

That's a good point. I would have bought the car regardless of the discount (or lack of it) but felt I ought to make the dealer work for his £10k (or whatever commission they get) and saw it as a bit of a game. I find it quite amusing the way there wander off (almost certainly do nothing) then come back to you and continue "negotiating".
Must be a proven technique because they all do it.
It is in fact Porsche UK policy that they will not discount new cars, so I'm afraid you are wasting your time even asking. I was told this by a dealer principal at an OPC who is a friend. Indeed any OPC found breaking this rule would probably be in big trouble with Porsche UK, so a straight cash discount is not going to happen.
That's not to say you can't wangle some freebies though. I got mats free, plus a handfull of goodies such as mugs and keyrings. Others have done better, some worse. I have also had two "test drive plus" sessions which have been great fun, and of course you get the full PDE as well (not all OPCs seem keen to own up to this). Buying an ex-demo car, or a used aone might be different, but these are still sought after cars at the moment so don't expect much generosity.
As a fully paid up, card carrying Scotsman, it hurt like hell to pay full price, as I NEVER buy anything without arguing the price down, but at least the Cayman was worth it in the end.
Just checked all your replies , and thanks ever so much for your help !
I didn't imagine porsche would give a discount ...but thought it would be worth while asking.
The next decision is to decide colour - basalt black or artic silver ....I think Im leaning more towards silver but Ill have a look of the pics you guys have posted
!
Its nice to know that there are still some guys out there willing to help a poor damsal in distress ~( well sort of ) . big thanks xxxx
They have listed Caymans in the past and may be worth a call. Their cars are all correctly specified, come with the full 2 year warranty, are available immediately. I would have seriously considered them had their spec's been right.
