Dash Mounted Security L.E.D

As far as I am aware all modern 911(for certain 996) models have a dash mounted security L.E.D which, when activated, confirms that the car is locked & alarmed by the typical red flashing L.E.D.

My current understanding of the Cayman is that this is not a facility that is available despite the prominence of what appears to be a dash mounted L.E.D (not working) that is identical to that on a 996.

The small L.E.D's in the centre console are all well and good if you can walk up to the car and view from the either the rear or side windows. However, I for one, am constantly checking the car and would rather have a visible display that could be viewed easily from the comfort of my living room window.

Given that the unit looks so similar to that on a 996 (which does emit a flashing red light) I have convinced myself that there should be something similar on the Cayman.

Surely it’s just a short trip to the dealer to have it activated???

The "quick reference guide" says that the unit is the interior temperature monitor / GPS antennal. However as I do not have GPS and there is already an air sensor built into the air-conditioning unit (the small grille in the middle) I cannot help but feel that all is not as it should be.

Any thoughts out there?

When the car is locked and alarm is activated, the red led in the lock\unlock button flashes very second. - Suneet

Suneet,

I realise the door lock / unlock button has an L.E.D mounted within it which does flash when the alarm is activated.

My frustration with the Cayman is that the unit that sits on top of the dashboard (the little device in the middle and up against the windscreen) does not also flash.

I am almost certain that on a 996 it does and so see no reason why it shouldn't on the Cayman.

Later,

graysea.

FWIW, the same sensor on the Cayenne does not flash either. I think it is just a sensor.

Typically this is the location for the solar load sensor for the Auto climate control and auto light function. I've never seen one of these with an LED - (I design auto HVACs for a living)
