How many people would be interested in getting to speed quicker?

Well while most people have already come to agree with this a transmission is what makes you go fast.

I wanted to test the waters as to what kind of interest there would be in new gearing and transaxle rebuilds with new ratios for the Cayman?

We have been specializing in the Porsche transaxle and gearing business for sometime now and we are thinking of adding the Cayman.

Please do not be shy about letting me know if you are interested. Gearset cost is bound to be right aroung the $800.00 mark per set.

I look forward to your replies.

Ken Check is on the way to you.

When you mention 'gear sets' are you talking about ring and pinion? Or 1st, 2nd, 3rd.....?

Very interested, after you have looked at the transmission & R&P ratios for the Cayman S what do you plan to offer and when can it be ready.

I'd like to hear more details, but I think the stock gear ratios are definitely not optimum for most of us.

A lot of us don't need to do 180mph and also would like faster acceleration to 60 and/or 100.

Its also more engaging to shift more quickly as you accelerate.

Just another note

I think your response has been poor to this thread due to the title

You might consider a repost such as:

"Checking interest: Closer gear ratios for faster acceleration"

If you had specifics this would also likely increase interest in your topic.

I think you can assume significant interest here considering people are spending thousands on mods that, on a good day, may yield 5-10 HP increases. The improvement in acceleration with better gearing would dwarf those results. The devil is in the details. So what do you have in mind?

I would certainly be interested. Changing out the rear end gear ratio was always one of the first things that I did to my Mustangs. I'd love to be able to do the same on the Cayman for a reasonable price.

~70 mph in 2nd gear is just blah....

The easiest and cheapest way to change your final drive ratio is to change your rear tires to the smallest diameter tires you can find. 285/30 or 295/30 depending on the exact tire should reduce your final drive ratio by about 5%. It's not a huge change, but you don't have to drop your engine and break open your gearbox. The Continental ContiSportContact 2 is even available in a 255/30 that reduces the final drive ratio by 9%. It's a crappy tire, though.

Changing the final drive is not the answer. That kills cruising gas mileage and makes 1st into more of a stump puller than it already is. it also does nothing to improve the spacing of the intermediate gears. I'd like to see changes to 2nd, 3rd, 4th and possibly 5th.

I agree. Plus make 6th a whacky highway cruising gear. 75-80 mph should be around 2500 rpm. Right now 60mph takes 2400.

I understand that this is a whole different conversation, though.
