I'm not signing up at the present time but, I may have a suggestion that has not been thought of (I have not read the whole post). Instead of replacing the entire engine cover, why not offer a clear glass modification of the original cover? This would require cutting a square opening and fitting this new part (including moldings and seals) making visible only the top portion of the engine (illuminated or not) through the hatch from the outside.

And, if the glass flush with the carpet, you will gain space where the foam/carpet/original engine cover used to be.

Has this been discussed (if yes then sorry for repeating).

Hi Stevie, yes we have discussed a similar option by putting a panel in effectively the carpeted cover. Issue is noise and until we actually try the polycarbonate cover and run with it on we don't know just how loud it will be. It isn't particularly engine noise as such. When you run with just the ally cover it's the suction noise from sucking air that's a bit, how can I say, "not nice" but thanks for you consideration and thought.........allan

Unfortunately we have to do all the donkey work before we see anything.
We are taking the standard aluminium cover and "smoothing" it completely (basically by filling in all the strengthening ribs etc.) we then make a GRP female mould with an extra lip all the way round, so at the next stage the polycarbonate forms properly. Once this is made, a special resin "male" mould is made. This is then used to pull a vacuum in the Forming oven. It then gets trimmed and drilled and we are then having a black edge all the way round (a bit like how the glass in your car looks now.) then it goes to Belgium for the surface harness "Hard Coating" to be applied.
I'm hoping before that time that we will be in a position to make a one off mock up, to test for noise size, fit etc.....so at this time we will see what it will look like overall…. .

The only commitment that I’m looking for at the moment is $344 (£175) Just so we can cover the costs of making the mould/masters.

So if anybody feels the "need" to help in this venture....feel free to send some money !!!!!! which of course should you decide to continue will be knocked off the cost of the finished cover
