I have to take a trip to Maui in October for a family get together. This will be the first time that my whole family travels by plane. Before kids, it was easy, now I am going to have to travel on a flight from Texas to Hawaii with my wife, a 2 year old and an infant.
My question for all the members here that travel extensively, is there some trick to getting a good deal on 4 tickets to Maui? I went on Continental.com and it was like $1300 a ticket for coach!!
I also went on several of the more popular travel sites like travelocity.com, expedia.com, etc and although I got a little better deal, it wasn't much of a savings. Are there any sites out there that I might not be aware of? Is there a trick?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
You only need 3 tickets and I think you might be able to get away with only 2. You'll need to check, the age limit might be up till 2 years old. Hopefully that helps a bit, but I'm not sure about the prices. $1300 seems pretty high to me but maybe that's a seasonal thing? Don't know, kinda wierd for Oct..
You might want to check on flights to Honolulu and then a direct to Maui via Aloha or Hawaiian.
Use one of the sites you mentioned and do flexible dates +/-3 . You might find that moving it a day one way or the other may save you a few hundred per ticket. With multiple tickets, it adds up quick.

As presto mentioned, you only need to buy 2 full-fare tickets. Your infant should be able to travel for free, but will have to sit on your lap. Same goes with your 2 your old, if he/she isn't too big. However, if you want to buy a seat, most airlines will give a 50% discount off the full fare for kids that young.
I would also suggest pleasantholidays.com. You can get heavily discounted tickets and packages to Hawaii from their site. For all your considerations, give them a call and they can work something out.
And another thing: Southwest doesn't list with any of the price aggregators (priceline, expedia, travelocity, cheaptickets, etc.). This and other factors let them undercut their competitors' prices, rather handily sometimes.
Southwest doesn't operate flights to HI, but they have a resell arrangement with ATA. Going straight to ata.com I found $521 (plus tax) round trip to Maui (mid-July itinerary), but from Oakland CA. Getting to Oakland from TX will add some of course, but the total would still be a lot less than $1k/adult.
Hawaiian Air has specials out of Phoenix, Sandiego, and LA. Sometimes as low as $279. You may be able to get seperate tickets to fly into one of those cities first and still be well under $1300

I thought about only getting 2 tickets, but the thought of carrying a 2 year old in your lap for 10 hours doesn't sound like fun.

Thanks for the new site, I will check it out and see if I can come up with a better deal.
I'd love to have to only buy 2 tickets, but we are going to have to buy at least 3. My 2 year old is big. He is 3 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 35 pounds. Not to mention he is active, very active. He is going to have to have a seat. The infant will most likely ride in my wife's lap, but I was hoping to find cheap tickets and get a seat for him. No where near a requirement.
