True Story?

Well if it is, this if pretty amazing.

Someone sent this email to me and I thought I would share:

A New York man retired. He wanted to use his retirement money
wisely, so it would last, and decided to buy a home and a few
acres in Portugal. The modest farmhouse had been vacant for 15
years; the owner and wife both had died, and there were no heirs.

The house was sold to pay taxes. There had been several lookers,
but the large barn had steel doors, and they had been welded shut.
Nobody wanted to go to the extra expense to see what was in the
barn, and it wasn't complimentary to the property anyway.... so,
nobody made an offer on the place.

The NY guy bought it at just over half of the property's worth;
moved in, and set about to tear in to the barn. curiosity was
killing him. So, he and his wife bought a generator and a couple
of grinders... and cut thru the welds.
What's in the barn you ask?
Go to; Barnfinds Portugal and start wishing you had
bought the place.

I have seen many variations of this, and I'm sorry to say that it is bogus.

I've also seen this on many forums. I think even my parents sent it to me. Regardless of origin, its a very nice collection of cars and would be fun to think about what it would be like to open those doors for the first time in decades and see all that machinery come into focus! Sorta like the first guy into King Tut's tomb.

regards

ken

The barn exists and so do the cars.....but the story, as told, does not.....

Its too bad the condition of those cars is so poor in many cases....imagine what they would be like if held for such a long time in conditioned spaces and properly cared for...?

Try this link (which is connected to the website listed above by going to the "index" page).

Even if the story is made up I still can't imagine that many cool, old cars in one barn.

This guy was able to put together this collection, and not one Ferrari. Wonder why?

I'm guessing that most of those cars would require complete restoration. I'm not sure if any of them are desirable enough to justify the cost. If that's the case; what a pity.

A old friend of mine works for an auction house in Maine that has 2 auctions a year selling ultra high end rare firearms. His job is traveling around the country buying collections from family estates and seeking consignments from sellers. Recently, a Walker Colt handgun surfaced from a family estate that no one knew about. The Colt pistol may be the finest example in existance and is expected to bring north of 1 million at the Oct. auction. There are still undiscovered gold mines of old cars and such out there but unfortunately this one is internet urban legend.
