I'm looking to buy a simple navigation device and I'm not sure what the consensus is. So I thought I'd ask the experts. Knowing that you drive the Cayman says allot about your good taste and appreciation for finer things.
The little I know is that the Tom Tom One is very simple and I like it. Any other suggestion. Please know that I'm looking for good directions and simplicity...thats it. Please share if you think that the Tom Tom One is the way to go or can you think of a better system. Any advice is appreciated.
I'm partial to the Garmin "Nuvi" line. I too am researching a good portable GPS for my car, and I've noticed the Garmin Nuvi 260. It has a sub-$300 price, with "text-to-speech" where it pronounces the street names. Every model from the 260 and above pronounces the street names.
I know the Nuvi 350 is pretty popular, based on its' slim form-factor and features. However, the 350 has features I dont need- MP3 player, bluetooth, e-book reader, currency converter...etc. The 260 doesn't have all those features- it's just a portable NAV unit. That's probably what I'm shooting for. Also, the GUI on the Garmins seem pretty intuitive and user friendly.
I'd suggest to keep an eye out for the models that provide real-time traffic updates, though most currently require a paid-subscription for the service.
Hope this helps- also check cnet.com, the reviews on newegg.com and amazon.com for user's impressions.
good luck!

Tom Tom 720 is nice - bigger screen than most, and announces street names. Recalcs fairly quick when it needs to - funny to hear it say "Turn around as soon as possible!"
I have at least seven Garmin GPSs (cars, motorcycles, boat, bicycle, running) so I am a big fan of their products and their service. For the Cayman I have a Nuvi 660. I like the screen size, Bluetooth and the nüvi 660's integrated FM TMC traffic receiver. I don't use the MP3 player. Bluetooth is great for hands free cell phone use. The FM TMC traffic receiver warns you about traffic delays. (The nüvi 660's integrated FM TMC traffic receiver is free for six months but after that depends of a yearly paid subscription.)
I use the Garmin "bean bag" mount and keep it on the dash. It hasn't slid off yet!
TomTom gets good reviews.
Do a search and you will find more information about GPSs.

Got a Garmin Nuvi 200W (widescreen) from Amazon and I'm very happy with so far. It's very basic with none of the Bluetooth, traffic radio or text to voice capabilities.
The number of different features and models have exploded out there, but if you just need the basic navigation features, you can't go wrong with this one.
Plus one of their downloadable car icons resembles a Cayman EXACTLY.

Another vote for the Garmin Nuvi. Pick the one that's got the features and price you prefer.
Check out: GPSPassion.com, the CaymanClub of GPS sites, for more than you'll ever want to know about GPS units.
There are a whole bunch of new GPS units (including new ones from Garmin) that will be announced at CES shortly so if you want to wait for the "latest and greatest" it is only a few days.
I did some research in December and ended up buying 5 Tom Tom 920....(myself, my three sons and my son in law). Costco had a good price on their .com site. Check it out...$100 below any retail shop I could locate.
Easy to use...all the features I need ( it locates Starbucks !!!!)
