Well all have watched Top Gear and seen the Stig. As fas as I know, little is known about him. Just now, as I was browsing the CC forum a TG episode taking place in what appears to be African tundra, is on and the Stig is in what looks like a toga and a helmet. This reveals enough skin for me to tell he has the same skin color as British F1 driver Lewis Hamilton.
In an earlier episode today, where all three hosts plus the Stig race thru London on bike, boat, public transportation and a Mercedes (SUV?) there is a scene where the Stig picks up a newspaper and sees an article on Lewis Hamilton, and throws it down.
That made me wonder if the Stig is none other than Lewis Hamilton. He seems to have a similar build too.
Can anyone identify him? I suppose I should have done an internet search first, but for fun I posted this article for some discussion.
In the TOP GEAR African adventure, they state that the driver is a local relative of the Stig; not Stig himself. And after the discovery of 'Lucy' by Dr. Johanson and Gray, and the Leakey family, it has been well proven that we are ALL direct relatives to everyone in Africa. ( My apologies to all racists and supernaturalists who may be reading this. ) If the driver was actually a local to that village, he did drive very well indeed.
I must say that the Stig is an intriguing mystery. He has bested all of the few F1 drivers who have appeared on the Top Gear. (Of course Top Gear is too afraid to let any NASCAR driver challenge the great Stig.)
The stig has changed a few time over the years ...
You state this as fact. How do you know this? I agree that this probably the case, but ...
And I am often surprised by the larger budgets that Top Gear's BBC producers get to play with,.. Yet I seriously doubt that it would begin to cover the HUGE cost of having the World's most well paid driver in all of motorsport, show up at every short TV episode, and risk total career humiliation and loss of creds, in order to race a few production street cars around a small, old airport race track for a short, anonymous part in a humorous reality TV series.
PS
My apologies, wvicary,.. I found this info as you also probably did,..
Quote:
The identity of the first Stig was revealed to be Perry McCarthy. McCarthy is a former Formula 1 driver and test driver for the Benetton, Arrows and Williams teams, and also tested for BMW F1.[2]
The identity of the new Stig has not been officially revealed

Hello Bodhii,
The reason that Top Gear won't allow any NASCAR drivers to test is only too obvious...they are liable to hurt somebody! (LOL)
I too went directly to Wikipedia after posting and found the above info. After I posted, I said to myself, there is NO WAY they could afford a top lever professional driver who is currently on any circuit. But I thought to avoid humiliation (for whatever reason) that is why they never reveal his face (even though when he trains the celebrities that come on the show, they would obviously know who he was).
Nonetheless he has great time in every car, so he knows what he is doing thats for sure!
And as far as the comments go concerning The Stig being a different person from time to time...
Well he certainly looks similar almost always as far as body size, height and weight go....and thats given the small amount of time the viewer is allowed to see The Stig.
But maybe the argument could be made that a lot of F1 drivers have similar builds?

No worries. I know that they changed stigs in the past as I watched an episode of TG when they introduced the "new" stig. I don't thinks it Hamilton as I can't see his contract including mucking about on TG... just a guess on my part of course.
I used to enjoy TG but the past year or so it's become more staged and stupid. It's not about the cars anymore and more focused on how big of an *** Clarkson can make of himself.
