And as usual Porsche thought this out ahead of time and provided an accessory as described on page 39 of the ’06 Owners Manual.....
Could that be a cloaking device by any chance?

Yeah, its amazing how people react to such cars

A good car will get you from point A to point B. A great car... will just get you into trouble!
Interesting responses! The answer is for ME to adjust my attitude and get used to it.
I decided two years ago I wanted a Porsche and saved and arranged things so I could get it. I never thought about what other people would think. I was just caught unprepared the strength of the reactions, both positive and negative.
I few times I found myself making excuses such as ‘I don’t have children’, ‘I have a small house with a small mortgage’ and etc. I’m not going to do that anymore. I’ll just say ‘there‘re great, you should get one too’ and leave it at that.
Ignorance and poor manors on the general public's part. Sure many of us have mucho $$ and this car is a drop in the bucket. But there are some of us who simply have discerning tastes and somehow find the way to make it happen. I got to say that with my Lotus Elise, the first words out of many people's mouths were "How much did that cost?" I haven't gotten that with the Cayman yet.
After nearly 8 months of owning my CS I have never had a negative comment.
The only problem I had was trying to convince my girlfriend why I wanted one. She, like a lot of people associated Porsche with people who want to show off.
I explained only a small minority of Porsche owners make up this section of the market. The larger proportion buy the car for what it is - a fantastic car first and a Porsche second.
I, like you, sometimes feel inclined to make excuses for having such a nice car. Unreal, is it not ?
So far, my Cayman S has earned only compliments and stunned looks...
With the Boxster, I did get a "poor man's porsche" comment and even a "my father drives a carrera". Guys of course. I guess jealousy cannot be helped. The overwhelming majority of thumbs-up and "can I have a ride ?" more than made up for it
Here is my most memorable anecdote. When I first purchased my Boxster, as a medical student, my staff wanted to take me out to a remote under-serviced area to work for the day. He told me to leave my car in the outside parking lot of his office, and then we would do the trip together in his SUV. I asked if his parking lot was safe, to which he replied "of course... unless you have a Porsche convertible (big chuckle)". I looked at him straight : "actually, I do" - his facial expression, then, was alone worth the purchase of the car
Try not to let the comments bother me. I bought the car for me. It can be tiresome, but its still better than the alternative:
"Boy you must have a lot of money" - (Your truck + boat > $$ than my car, it's my hobby and you have yours)
"So you could not afford a 911?" - (never made by 911 owners, i just agree that I can not afford a new 911)
"Convertables are for Playboys and hard tops are for the true performance Driver" - (comment made on these forums yesterday, I usually don't respond, just reduces my respect for the person)
"Your having a mid-life crisis!" - (I don't think so, I have always wanted one and now I can get one)
"Nice car!" - (Thanks!)
If you think you get a lot of looks and comments driving a Cayman, yesterday I was driving a 2008 Lotus Elise SC. The car is chrome orange. I couldn't believe how much attention the car got. If I landed a flying saucer in Washington DC I think it would not have gotten more attention.
I guess I have a bad attitude because I don't give a d@mn what people think about the car I drive!
Only one negative comment that I can remember, and it hurt, came from a neighbor, a very close friend whom I care about dearly, but we are on the opposite ends of the economic spectrum. When he first saw it, he said "I guess I am going to have to move out now."
A couple of months later I brought that up, and he said he was at a particularly low spot when he said it - some rough personal financial issues. I took him for a long drive today on some primo driving roads. He loved it.
As far as women go, all comments have been positive, and my girlfriend COMPLETELY understands the car thing. I'm such a lucky guy. (=; I'm getting her into driving school as soon as her schedule allows.
Do I like the attention a cobalt blue Cayman with Forgeline wheels attracts? YEA! Just have to keep in mind that the state troopers are noticing too!
1. I am a young guy and make good money doing what I love to do - helping my employers get to the next level and grow exponentially. If anyone has an issue with that... I could care less how they perceive me, I wouldn't interact with them anyway. I have enough incredible people around me who I respect and they respect me. Not here in this world to change everyone Plus, never worked with a CEO or President of a company who knew anything about cars. I am usually the one they come to when they need advice on cars.
2. Some people blow $700 on a bar tab or $2K for baseball tickets... I choose to indulge in cars.
3. When topic of cars comes up in conversation, I usually say I have a muscle car and a sports car. If they probe further, I tell them one is a wagon and another is a mid-engine little car. I usually refer to them by "wagon" and "little car". Unless you are cur nut too, that is all you are going to find out from me. If you are a car fanatic, than we are going for a ride in both If I trust you, than you will get to drive.
4. I am married, so what ladies think does not matter to me. I "married up" and love of my life never cared about the cars, but at the same time she likes that I am into cars, because she thinks that tinkering with cars relaxes me.
5. Has my attitude changed ever since I got CS. Not really. I park it further (just like my other car), so it does not get dinged. I only play in the parking lots if no one is there. If you approach me at a gas station or anywhere else,I will be more than glad to tell you about the car, show you both trunks (seems like amazing thing to many people). If you have little boy with you, he is more than welcome to get in a car and even rev it.
6.Yes, I have Porsche stuff in my offices, but only in the form of an auto cross picture and a little model of CS my wife gave me as a gift. Most people never notice it :-) Yes, I like to wear my Porsche hat, but it only has a crest, so 99.99% of people have no idea what it is.
7. On the road, yes, guys in minivans for some reason like to cut me off... but it no longer bothers me. Plus, here in Boston we are too busy dodging potholes, so there is no time to oogle other cars.

My last car was more valuable than my Cayman. It cost more five years ago than what I paid for my new '08 Cayman. So, in a sense, I stepped "stepped down" to a much better car. People at work didn't notice, care or comment.
What was wrong with your old car?: Nothing.
Why did you buy that?: 'Cause I wanted it.
You must have too much money: Yes
Really, most women (not all) just don't get the car thing. Their view on a car is usually concentrated on if it can get them form one mall to the next, how many cupholders for bottled water does it have, and how large is the "makeup" mirror. Engine sound, road feel, handling, etc. are all a mute point.

Do tell....I am too curious.
