So, I'm flipping though the channels on this, my very exciting, Friday night. I come across the National Spelling Bee. Televised live from our great nation's capital, Washington DC none the less. A young man walks up to the mic and stares intently at the judges table. And then the word is announced.... "Numbnut". The audience breaks out in laughter at what has to be the funniest moment in Nat'l Spelling Bee history. The kid looks dumb-founded and looks around. The laughter dies off and the kid leans into the mic and says... "Numbnut?". Again, laughter. The announcer then clearly enunciates, "Numnah" to which the kid says, "Ohhhhh, Numnah!". He then rattles off the spelling correctly. I was rooting for him the rest of the Bee. And he won.
Funny....I just watched this too! That moment was hilarious for sure. In the end, I thought he would finish second to the guy who actually did finish second. That guy was a spelling machine! Literally, his actions were machine like. Poor kid was in such shock when he misspelled his last word that he did not know what to do!
I guess we are pathetic souls sitting around watching spelling bees huh?
The video of the moment is out there. Still cracks me up. May have to go watch it again given this evening's as exciting as last night was... I wish I was recovering from a day of driving.
